problem #1

Dec 182014

Escape XLT 4 cyl

Did not notice any problems prior - no lights, no warnings etc. Brakes seemed to operate normally. I finished work that day and jumped in my car to go home. There's a hill with a STOP sign at the bottom of it to get onto the main thoroughfare. I went to SLOW down to stop and NOTHING happened. Worst nightmare. I pumped multiple times and nothing. I've had other cars when the brake fluid is low, pumping will bring up the pressure. This was NOT the case, however after many pumps a slight slowing occurred. What to do? It was rush hour - no garage within miles. Lots of traffic.

I opted to drive 8 miles home on the Interstate being SUPER CAUTIOUS and leaving extra, extra space for slowing. I made it home safely and got the car to the mechanic the next morning 2 blocks away. They said the brake lines were frayed, the tubing was dried out and crumbly. $100 for each wheel to replace brake lines.
