Escape Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,000 miles

At about 56000 miles the brake pedal began to make noise as it was depressed and would go all the way to the floor on occasions. The car stops well when the brakes are hit hard but I think I have a master cylinder or brake booster going out.

scratching/grinding/squeaking

While driving in the city, all the sudden my car started to grind while driving it, followed by the "4WD" and "ABS" lights. In the message center, it said, "Service Brake System" "Service 4WD System" and "4WD System Disabled." My spedometer also kept jumping around. Had the car towed back to my house where I discovered the driver's front tone ring had cracked and slid off the CV shaft. The grinding was the ring hitting the speed sensor. I went to an aftermarket part store and bought a new CV Shaft, as I was told I couldn't buy just the ring. I called the dealership, and guess what? They had 10 in stock! (That should tell you something when the dealership is in a small town of only 3000 people!!). I bought the ring and replaced it, but if I had them fix it, it for sure would have cost a fortune. As soon as it was fixed, all of the lights went out and no messages were flashing.

Escape XLT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,000 miles

Escape brakes are very noisy compared to most cars, they tend to sound like they are scratching, grinding and/or squeaking at various times, especially when backing up or they are wet. Replaced brake pads and rotors and no improvement. Probably bad design or materials.
