Tranny shop said they see this problem often, such that they're proficient at disassembling back half of tranny while still in vehicle. Said I was lucky not to need a new tranny @$4000.00

I cannot believe that a relatively new Ford Escape always serviced per manufacturer recommendations and under 50K miles has blown a transmission!!!! No wonder American car companies are in the trouble they're in. I definitely will be buying a Honda next time.
And, check this out...I contacted Ford to see if they were willing to help with this huge repair bill. Of course not was their response. And now I find out that the transmission failure on this vehicle is common. If it's so common why doesn't Ford own up to it and fix it??!!!
Update from Aug 31, 2011: $3350 later we have a new Ford transmission (isn't it convenient how that works out for Ford?). This new transmission has a 3 year, unlimited miles warranty. My guess is that it will go out again at 3 year, 1 day.

I have never been a Ford man until I bought a 2004 F250 pickup. Best pickup I have ever owned, still going strong at over 100K. The Escape I bought for my daughter, was really surprised something like this would bail at under 70K. Really anything but this. If the American Car industry was so proud of their products, offer a 7/70,00 like they did in the 60's. I will never buy another foreign car ( well maybe an Acura ), so this little problem ( if you call $1500 a little problem) is all I have to spend on my Ford's, I guess I'm pretty lucky. I had to pay $500 for a tail light lens on my Mitsu 3000GT!

Transfer Case / Paint Peeled/ Sluggish Engine.= Revs on own. Losing Power and load.. I am not a happy camper. Had to rent vechiles to feel safe with family if going any long distance. Money Pit.
Sad cause it is a nice looking ride. Wow,,,,,,,, $$$$$ extra cost involved.. FORD should be ashamed..
