So aside from what everyone else wrote - heavily using WD40 in the hinges, in the locks. I'm oiling this car up like a stripper. Seems to at least get me through the night - sent it to a car alarm place to fix. They promised half day. After day three of yelling at them, they gave up. I had them do a rig in the right rear door. Dome light never works right now, door ajar always on, but the alarm stopped going off for 7 months. $200 for that. - 7 months later, back to square one - argued with ford on twitter. Ford said contact a dealership, maybe they could do something. Yeah right. - 2 months after rig, O/D light came on. Oh good, another thing Ford screwed many people over about. - never, ever, buying ford again.

Alarm went off again without external tampering - thought it might be neighbor cars setting off the sensors. Went off three times in the same hour and then behaved itself for the rest of the evening.

This time, this happened between 5 and 6 o'clock PM, car is parked with window facing south. Contacted the dealership the next morning to ask them about testing it, after my husband had gone online and researched and found this is a common problem.

Update from Mar 11, 2015: Dealer says it was the right rear passenger latch and have repaired it as a extended warranty. Crossing my fingers this is the solution - I only just got it back. (One day to diagnose, one day to order/install parts).

Asked the service department before purchasing the vehicle if there were any known common problems with this vehicle - they said no.

We noticed the interior light was not going off while waiting for paper work to be finished - they said they would fix it before we left. This is apparently a common symptom of the alarm sensor problems. The light was off when we purchased the vehicle, and I've not noticed it on inadvertently since, but the alarm has gone off randomly on 2 other occasions I will report separately.

Car alarm went off again - this time at 3:58 PM. It was parked in a different spot (not at home). The back window was still to the south, but was partially covered by shade. There were no quick temperature changes recorded at this time.

I just purchase this vehicle from a dealer and of course I will be giving them grief over it, but it is a used as is vehicle and I will be probably trying to fix it on my own. From what I see on the internet this is a common problem that others are having on several years and models of Fords. It could be just because the positive battery terminal is corroded or a variety of hood, rear hatch and door ajar sensors. We'll see and I will keep you informed.

Update from Mar 8, 2015: Someone asked if I found a solution! Well for me I have been troubleshooting it and it seems to be my passenger side rear door adjar sensor, which is part of the door latch assembly that is $220 - $250 depending on where you get it. I've had other priorities and have not purchased it yet or should I need to since I purchased an extended warranty for this vehicle. Which I'm glad because it is coming of age that it will be needed repairs on it that will basically pay for the warranty. $2.5K seems a lot for a 5yr, 100K mile warranty, but when a $1.6K to $1.8K timing belt replacement expense happens along with getting a rental car and other things going on like this door switch, we are just paying ahead on common maintenance and repairs that are going to happen every 70-90K miles!

If troubleshooting and you are showing a door ajar on your dash, you may need a 2nd person to watch the dash indicator and just go around and push on the hood, the doors or rear hatch until you find out which one it is. It may also show some other issues, like my passenger side rear door does not unlock with the rest of them at times. You hear it try to, but it doesn't!
