Escape XLT 3.0L

I was driving on the interstate and all of a sudden my whole car started to shake. I let off the gas and it stopped. I hit the gas again and it started all over. I tried to change lanes thinking it was the road but that didn't help. It was only when I accelerated. It went like this for about 4 miles and then stopped.
