The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. While driving 50 mph, the accelerator pedal seized. On another occasion, the accelerator pedal seized again and the contact had to coast the vehicle off the highway to the shoulder. The contact was almost struck from the rear by a semi truck. The contact called shimmers Ford (10401 woodcrest dr nw, coon rapids, mn 55433, (612) 424-7648) and dixon Ford (489 E 2nd St, dixon, il 61021, (815) 288-3366) and was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and transferred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 196,370.

Several years later the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and acknowledged that there was a retainer clip that could remedy the defect. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 11,152 and the current mileage was 57,000. Updated 07/06/12 the consumer stated when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered the accelerator pedal was loose and all the way to the floor. There was no resistance that indicated the accelerator was connected. The dealer replaced the accelerator cable.

The contact stated that when stopped at a stop light, the accelerator pedal became stuck and would not move unless the consumers wife pressed on the bottom of the pedal firmly. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where he was informed that there was a clogged intake valve which would not allow the pressure in the pedal release. The repairs were made at the manufacturer's expense. On a separate occasion, while driving less than 40 mph, the contact heard a loud revving noise. The vehicle was hesitant to pick up speed. The accelerator pedal became inoperable and the contact coasted the vehicle off the highway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they found that the accelerator pedal cable lines failed again. The manufacturer assumed liability for the second time. The current and failure mileages were less than 29,500.
