Escape XLT 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,117 miles

My 2009 Ford Escape driver power seat started giving me problems on Jan 2015 at around 71,000 kilometers. The seat suddenly stopped adjusting forward & backward but the side control still worked to tilt. Then soon after, my battery started draining. I changed the battery since it was 4 1/2 years old. Still new battery would drain every 3 days to a week. I had a bit of luck using the vehicle (battery not totally discharged) until recently and had to use a battery charger one to two times a week.

Got fed up with this condition so took my Escape to my local Ford Dealer today (March 03rd, 2015) & they advised me the short was in the power seat motor. They disconnected the power connector to avoid more battery drain. The cost of electrical trouble shooting and the new driver's seat motor & frame unit costs $800.00 US. (comes a one complete unit only) They will install tomorrow & I will pick up the Escape then. Ford Dealer told me that the battery draw is now to an acceptable level and I do not anticipate any more battery drain problems.

Hopefully this helps others with identifying the battery drain poltergeists. Not cheap to fix but like one of the other posts I saw, I don't need to make a planter out of this vehicle.

Escape XLT 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,500 miles

Bought my 2009 XLT Ford Escape 4WD with a 3.0L back in May of 2009. Just had a fourth battery put in it in January of 2014. Every year in the winter the battery goes dead. What is the problem? Ford needs to put their brains together and figure out what's wrong. Dealership tells me I'm not driving it enough. I know of other people with 2009 and 2010 Escapes having the same problem.

Buyers beware! The only thing I've been told is maybe the computer is draining the battery. Maybe Ford should check that out. Thank the Lord I have brothers that know their way around vehicles because if it needs another battery they will put it in for me.

Escape XLS V4

  • Manual transmission
  • 31,000 miles

2009 Ford Escape battery keeps failing. Battery replaced Nov '11 and needs replacing again, Oct '12. There's no indication of any trouble, just won't start in the morning. Maybe this third battery will last. While mine was in the garage at the dealer being repaired, another '09 Escape was in for the exact problem, hummm.

Escape Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 600 miles

Ever since I bought my escape 2 years ago we have been having problems with the battery draining. It has been towed to the dealer twice with a dead battery and they fail to find the problem. I do notice that some of the media center equipment does not turn off during these instances. The vehicle has been in numerous times and at one point they informed me to buy a battery charger for it. Problem started at 600 miles and still persists at 31k. I feel they are using stall tactics until it is out of warranty.

Escape XL 4 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 13,112 miles

The battery drains because the electrical system does not shut down when the car is shut off. Ford says there is no fix for this problem.

Escape

  • 16,000 miles

The car was dead......and now it is dead again...2 months later. Ford did not have an answer the first time and the still do not have an answer. It just dies. Has anyone else had this problem? Otherwise I am pleased with the vehicle. But a large black "planter" is not what I am looking for!

Escape XLT V4

  • Manual transmission
  • 13,000 miles

OK if leave Ford escape (manual trans, XLT) sit for a few days, car won't start. Happened several times after 3-4 months of purchase, then seemed not to have the problem for close to 8 months, then back again.

I know one problem I had (and was answered by another user somewhere out there on the net, and eventually by my dealer also) is that if you come to rolling stop in manual XLT, computer thinks the car is still moving, and so keeps back hatch locked, even when car parked/off. This makes me wonder if other circuitry stays on as the car is shut off while thinking it is still moving, so what other circuits are left open, or incorrect function.

As a result, I've had major incoveniences taking this supposed new car to the dealer, they can't figure it out -- it's clearly electrical design issues, I wish Ford would do something about this. Lemon.

Escape LX 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,666 miles

I'm on my 3rd battery for the Escape which is less than a year old.. First battery died after 8666 miles. Dealer replaced the battery. The replacement died after about two weeks, replaced again. Dealer said there is no extra draw on battery. Hard to believe I stumbled into two defective batteries.

Escape XLS 4

  • Manual transmission
  • 7,200 miles

Dead battery problem happens repeatedly if car sits for more than 3 days. I have had 1 new battery installed and now just bring the charger out if I leave the car sit. Dealer has been no help and cannot find drain. Problem is combined with a rear hatch failure to open on an intermittent basis - no luck getting that fixed either
