Escape 4WD 6-cyl

  • 47,000 miles
I was driving on the highway on 8/22 going to work going approximately 65 mph when the car engine just died. The radio and lights still worked but the engine just stopped. I put my blinker on and the car went slowly forward (still in momentum from going 65 mph--snails pace now) went from the travel lane to the right lane to the emergency lane --people honking at me and fear that I may cause a serious accident or get rear ended. Very scary in morning rush hour traffic. I was able to get a tow truck to bring it to the dealership (figuring it may be covered by warranty). The dealership said nothing was wrong with it--"no codes showed up". on Monday 8/26 I went to pick up the Escape and literally pulled out of the dealership and about 2 miles away from the dealership, the same thing happened--the engine just had no power--died again, I put my gas pedal foot all the way down to the floor and no power. I pulled over. Stopped. I was able to re-start the Escape and turn around. I pulled into the dealership and there the Escape died again. Next day, the service manager called me and said it was the throttle body---not covered by warranty. "codes finally came up". I charged my credit card and had it fixed. I have had it home for one day now and am keeping my fingers crossed no further issues.

Escape 4WD 6-cyl

  • 82,100 miles
Vehicle stalled while driving down highway at 60mph. Happened again a week later- three times in same trip. Had to pull off side of road, put in park and turn off engine and restart each time. Trouble code P2111 indicated defective throttle body. Internet search showed this issue is under investigation. Ordered new part from dealership and dealer informed me it is on backorder for an undetermined amount of time due to high volume of replacements. In the meantime I cannot drive my vehicle.

Escape 4WD 6-cyl

  • 42,000 miles
Fall of 2011, I noticed that my gas pedal was not always responsive. Coming off a stop or low speeds, the gas pedal would not respond until after I had pumped it and pressed it nearly to the floor, then my Escape would take off, squealing tires and all. I noticed it a couple times on the highway as well, slowing for a curve and then unable to promptly accelerate coming out of the curve. Then one day I was on the highway and the gas pedal was completely unresponsive, and my car just completely shut off. This was really bothering me because there were multiple times I felt like I was going to get hit when I couldn't accelerate out of an intersection. I took the vehicle back to hastings Ford, and after multiple appointments and keeping my vehicle for several days, they were unable to confirm or repair anything. I kept driving it for a while, the same issues still happening, and then after the second time the car shut off on the highway, and after consulting a relative who is a former Ford mechanic, I brought it to another dealership. They kept the car the max number of days they were allowed to without repairing anything, and found on the last day that it was a faulty throttle body. The replaced the throttle body but the issue still lingers. And I also feel a short vibration in the pedal nearly every time I accelerate from a slow or stop. I still do not feel the issue is fully resolved. I still consider my throttle body to be defective.

I had to have the throttle body replaced yesterday. When I would try and accelerate my car would sputter and go into limp mode. The wrench and engine light would go on. The first event was at about 25,000 miles. It occurred again at about 30,000 miles. This time there wan no ignoring it because it was not drivable after I shut it off and had to have it towed to the dealership.
