muffler separated fron the rear pipe due to undo rust

During a maintenance routine the dealer found the souce of my abnormal noise when accelerating... They told me the rear face of the muffler was rusted and the pipe separated from it... They written an esimated that the replacement ''compusory'' of the muffler only,... (Understanding that converter, muffler and final rear resonator in this order).. repairs would cost me $469.00 plus (1.25 work hour) this is close to 600$.... My car has no evidence of underbody ''rubbing''and muffler is totally free of dents, lumps nor scratches. At 83,000kms it is not normal wear and tear. Ford should be taking this a an UNRESONABLE ABNORMAL DEFECT and shall replace it at no cost.

Note: I owned a Freestar 2006 and 189,000 kms and it has the same muffler from aft to rear since I bought it new in spring 2006..!

Being an eight Ford product I bought since 1972, I expected from my Escape to be a Ford Family product... As it goes now, it feel more like a Kia or GM family witch is not a positive situation for me ,to by an other Ford... Hope that they will at least sériously look into it to resolve this quality problem!
