door latch pawl spring tab

Just got off work at 11:30 p.m. The driver side door opened fine but would not close. Could not see the problem in dark. Had to drive home alone on a highway, with 30 mph winds, holding the door shut. It was nerve-wracking and dangerous. Thank God I had seat belts!

Had this problem once before on different car where the door swung open on the passenger side and I had to grab my gray-haired Mother to keep her from tumbling out and not get into a car wreck at same time. That scenario kept playing through my mind as I drove home alone in the dark. Apparently Ford had recalls on this problem up to the year I purchased my car. I was one month late on the recall. They should stop using cheap plastic parts to bolster their bottom line!
