Bought vehicle from my parents. Tires were new tires due to Ford/Firestone recall. A second tire is now exhibiting a belt shift condition. Symptom is a speed related tire noise similar to a flat spot on the tire but no vibration or bump is felt. First replacement performed free of charge by dealer. Second failure to be looked at by Goodyear retailer due to distance to Ford dealer. Goodyear retailer has advised of a prorated charge due to wear on tires.

My three other tires were also separating and were replaced. I am still waiting for Firestone to pay me for my medical and eight months loss time from work and vehicle rental. They had reimbursed me approximately $2,700 only for damage to my Explorer. The tires they had replaced I believe now has a recall according to the new reports of 5-21-01. If you can give me some assistance it would be greatly appreciated. (dot number: W2hl1pm135 tiresize: P235/75R15)

On February 19, 2000, ed carney Ford refused to exchange my recalled Firestone tires because they were not currently mounted on my vehicle and I had other tires on the car... this despite presenting the recalled tires at their dealership that day. The Ford Motor Company has since confirmed to me that the dealership acted improperly, and that tires affected by the recall are to be exchanged whether they are currently mounted or not. I believe this is a serious breech of ed carney's responsiblities in this recall, warranting this complaint, and I hope that the NHTSA will take active steps to ensure that they do not try to scam other customers this way in the future.
