Engine light came on, mechanic replaced 15718 Oxygen sensor-banktwo-sensor two, 7 months later, engine light came on again, replaced spark plugs, wires, found #4 & #4 CYL was misfiring, replaced fuel injector, also Goodyear told me it had lean codes. March 2010, engine light came on again, replaced spark plugs again, replaced Synchronizer, July 9, 2010, engine light came on again, replaced cam sensor and the throttle body, Sept 9, 2010, check engine light on again, replaced ignition coil, cleaned

MAF, two weeks later replaced Mass Air Flow Sensor, drove it one week and the light is on again, I have spent over $1200 AND no one seems to know how ro fix this problem, the car now has 128,000 miles on it. Help?

Explorer XLT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 129,000 miles

My check engine light came on so I went to O'Reilys to borrow their code checker. It said Bank 1 lean so I replaced the Bank 1 O2 sensor. I cleared the fault and all seemed OK for a few days, then the light came back on. I bought my own ODBII tester from Harbor Freight (<$50) and it said both Bank1 and Bank 2 lean. I checked with a couple of techs and they said this was common if the air filter was old and/or the Mass Air Flow sensor was dirty. I got a new air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor and the light hasn't come back on for two weeks so far.

If you are having this problem, I suggest checking the air filter and having the MAF sensor cleaned before going the expensive route of replacing the O2 sensors. NOTE: This only applies if BOTH banks are reporting a lean condition.

My 1999 Ford Explorer has valves that are blown. I had another engine put in it and the catalytic converters replaces. The engine they replaced it with also has blown valves. I am out $1500 and my car is still barely drivable...Ford needs to address these issues with all the faulty parts on Ford Explorers and PAY to fix them NOW!!!

Explorer Eddie Bauer 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,000 miles

I've owned this car for 4 years and nearly the entire 4 years the Check Engine Light has been on. I've been told it's the O2 Sensors, the catalytic converter and a variety of other issues. I opt'd to do nothing and have put 50K miles on the car. I know a handleful of other folks who have the same issue with their Explorer.
