Explorer Sport 4.0L V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 78,000 miles

Approx. a year ago at 78,000 miles our air bag light came on. We took it to our local dealer, Bob Boyd Ford. They said the fix would be to repair the wiring harness under

the carpet behind front seats. After paying for the repair we drve it less than two miles to our home and the air bag lite started flashing again. We took it back to the dealer and was then told it would need a new harness. Cost, approx $850.00.

If this is a safety issue then Ford should step up and make it right! What if the air bag goes off and causes a wreck resulting in injury? What if the air bag doesn't deploy and

we suffer more injury than we would have if the air bag was working correctly?

Explorer LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I took my 2000 Ford Explorer in for the 60K check up at the dealer and told them that the Airbag light was on -- I have never had an accident so was unsure why. They told me they would fix it, but for $850. It seems to me that this is a manufacturer issue. I was "warned" that if I did not get it fixed my airbag would not deploy in a accident. The cost seems steep, but I am concerned about safety. What should I do?

Explorer V6 4.0

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

Air bag light was on, reports 3-6 code. Wiring harness was the problem. My gripe is a wiring harness should not go bad after only 72,000 miles or even over 6 years and I believe this is a manufacturing defect that Ford should fix for free.
