Rear axle blew out while daughter driving up street in residential area. Rear axle fluid spilled out from quarter sized hole created directly on bottom back of housing unit. Spider gear shattered into several pieces. Seized vehicle up, undrivable, $85 tow truck bill. Local mechanic got rear axle and replaced for $900.

Has been sitting in the driveway since Thanksgiving weekend. Heard the problem is worse on 2002 models. Hope to have it checked out in Feb when money permits to see exactly what happened. Only driveable in 4 WD Low at this time.
