Explorer Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 176,000 miles

When driving in the 2011 Ford Explorer for over 15mins with the ac or heat on it begins to smell like rotten eggs and will make the people in the vehicle very nauseated, light headed, and severe headaches. If you turn the ac or heat off and roll the windows down it does resolve some, but the headaches will continue to linger. It does not matter if you are going down a highway, a side street, or sitting still if it is on for longer than 15 mins the CO2 starts to come into the cabin as soon as you turn the heat or ac on.

Pain in the rear end. Hate stepping on the gas hard just to smell a funny odor in the cabin. Been to the hospital twice since I've owned the vehicle and now starting to find out what I believed or suspected. Going right now to buy a CO detector to put it in my car. How sad. Just because Ford won't accept its responsibility. Dammit! More work to do, like I wasn't already busy enough.

Have a Mass Air Spectrometer test run by your local Fire Dept. This test measures the amount of Carbon Monoxide in the passenger cabin. Our car failed, and was impounded by the Fire Chief for being unsafe to drive.

I have a daughter of 1 year and 4 months and sientonseguro me to take my family on the Explorer. the smell is so strong that I think we can cause damage to health. a ford service manager told me the bus q is designed to have this problem and no way to solve it, because the bus is so.

while driving on the highway, and when coming upon a Sunday driver on Monday, you put the pedal to the metal and 5 seconds later a strange smell comes from the AC, like if its from the exhaust system. It then goes away, until you slam the pedal to the floor again, if you drive at a steady speed like 65 , you never get the odor. Has anyone had this problem?. I took the Explorer to Mayaguez Ford and they could not find the problem.
