Explorer Sport Trac LX 4.0L Sohc V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,000 miles

I purchased a 2001 Ford Explorer with 160,000 miles. Shortly after I purchased it it began making a rattling noise coming from the engine. It turns out that this is a common issue with the 4.0L caused by timing chain tensioners and guides and chains. I would have never thought Ford would have such a poor design. It's not a matter of if it's going to give you trouble, but when! I also can't believe Ford isn't offering any assistance in the enormous cost of repairs! Sadly, if you buy one of these used at fair market value, by the time you make these repairs that you may have to turn around and repair again after another 70 or 80,000 miles, you have too much money invested in it. Very upsetting! I would like to start a petition with other angry owners on this issue!
