The contact owns a 2000 Ford F150. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when smoke was emitted from under the hood. The contact and the driver exited the vehicle and then noticed flames coming from under the hood. The driver was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher and the fire department did not report to the scene. The vehicle was towed to an auto shop where the technicians stated there was an electrical shortage in the master cylinder that caused the fire. The insurance company stated that an inspector would investigate the vehicle to determine if the vehicle could be repaired or would be deemed as destroyed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
