F-150

  • 56,000 miles
In my case there were three separate occurrences where my spark plugs shot out of my engine. The first time it happened on the highway cruising along about 70 mph. I actually thought I blew a tire.this was at night so in the morning I checked it out with a friend's help and saw the plug sitting right where it wasn't supposed to be. So we went and bought a new plug and coil pack and threaded it back in and believe it or not it stayed there and still is there today. This first time was roughly 3 1/2 yrs ago. The next time it happened while my same friend was driving my truck to his house but this time it was a different plug and we weren't so lucky threading it back in. The threads were stripped out so we helicoiled it back in ourselves and it is still there today. This second time was roughly 2 yrs ago. The last time happened in a parking lot right as I started my truck up.the plug actually hit the underside of the hood when it blew. So again I bought a new plug and coil pack and luckily it threaded back in again. So now I am very gunshy naturally everytime I drive it. To properly correct this problem it would cost a small fortune and to sell it as is who will buy it. Also on this same vehicle my transmission blew at 39,000 miles when the warranty ran out at 36,000 naturally I was told there was nothing they could do. That cost me $3,500 and a week stranded. I had to have a new transmission installed at a dealership. The truck is a F150 harley davidson edition. It now has roughly 94,000 miles on it. The dates are all approximate along with the mileage when they occurred.

My 2002 F-150 supercrew 4X2 with 4.6lv8 experienced a failure of the automatic transmission on Saturday at only 75K miles. The result is a rebuild/replacement for >$2000! I don't tow anything with the vehicle and it isn't abused. This type of failure is very premature! the truck has been very well maintained. My mechanic says there is a history with this transmission in the Ford trucks/SUV's having lubrication problems. Ford should step up and take responsibility for the design defect!

My 2002 Ford F150 needed to have the transmission rebuilt. My overdrive light was blinking on and off and I later found out the entire transmission needed to be rebuilt. I've been reading online from several people who have had this same problem. It seems like Ford has some type of problem with this year. I don't understand why there can not be a recall in regards to this problem.

Spider gears in differential blew out for 2nd time on this truck which is a 2002 F-150 4X4 with a 3.55 diff. The first time was at around 45K mi.and this time at 83.5K miles. This truck was never overloaded and never pulled a trailer. Must be something wrong with Ford rear. After this repair, I am done with Ford!!

I own a 2002 Ford F-150 supercrew 4X4 pickup with 5.4L V8 gas engine and aod automatic transmission. At 48,500 miles on the vehicle the od on/off switch would not stay engaged and was flashing intermittently I took the truck to a local transmission shop who showed me metal shavings in the transmission pan and was told the torque converter must be replaced and the transmission must be rebuilt. I agreed to the work because I need a dependable vehicle. I have never abused the truck in any way and do not haul any type of trailers with the vehicle.

I brought the truck on June 1, 2004. A few months after I brought the truck it started giving me problems. I tried talking to the dealership but they were no help at all. I have tried talking to them plenty of times. I have took my truck to an mechanic an they told me it was a transmission problem. I don't know what to do the dealership is no help at all. Their warranty policy is a fraud they do not keep up with it. I am tired of this situation. That's the reason I want to cancel the purchase of this car.

2002 Ford F-150 traveling West on highway 40 in Arizona. Recall notice received on the cruise control initial failure cruise control on. Engaged maintain speed button vehicle started accelerating. Punched all of the cruise control buttons and tapped the brakes cruise control turned off. Confirmation turned cruise control on and hit maintain speed button. Vehicle started accelerating as before. Hit all of the cruise control buttons and tapped the brake. At 85 mph, I turned off the ignition. Immediately turned ignition on. Cruise control was active, motor raced, but transmission was in neutral. Shifter was in drive. Turned off ignition again and cruised to the left side of the road. Started vehicle and proceeded without using cruise control recommendation transmissions should not shift into neutral unless the operator places the shift lever in neutral. Previously owned Ford from the 60S, 70S, 80S, and early 90S do not disengage the transmission when the key is turned off.

F-150 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles
We have owned our 2002 F150 4 door truck for 5 months now purchased in Dec 04', we have 34,000 miles on this truck which was purchased used. On Saturday 4/23/05 our transmission completely slipped out leaving us no power on a busy, hilly, country road. The truck's rmp's would go up however, the truck was not gaining speed only losing speed, we are very lucky that no one came over the hill, or this would have caused a major wreck. Once we got us and vehicle to safety we called our Ford dealership chuck anderson Ford, who told us to have it towed in. However, they would not cover the tow since it was out of warranty. The vehicle evidently went out of warranty on Feb. 14th of this year 2005. I don't believe a truck with only 34,000 miles on it should have a transmission blown in it. We then had the truck taken to the dealership. I have spoken with the dealership today, which we we're told we would have to cover the deductible of $400/500.00 for this repair. They are now tearing the transmission apart.

Electrical: At 306 miles the solenoids had to be replaced. Upon shutting the vehicle off; the dash board would still illuminate. Also, upon shutting the vehicle off it would continue to run. This has happened a total of four times. The transmission completely failed with no warning. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told the windshield had a leak which corroded the electrical system. The electrical problems started at 44000 miles. The gasket had to be replaced, and the harness wiring had to be replaced also. Upon trying to start the vehicle again the battery would be completely dead.

I was driving down sr 33 in polk city when it seemed as if my car was slowing down. I had the pedal depressed but the truck continued to slow down. I had to pull off to the side of the road. When the speedometer fell back down to zero I attempted to take off again. Once again, the truck would get to 50 and then not shift to the next gear. This was the first and only signs something was wrong. I assumed it was a problem with the transmission. I drove to work (15 miles) in second gear, called a tow truck and had it towed to lakeland Ford. I was told the overdrive clutch burned up and the direct drive pak burned up. The Ford dealership wanted $2,326.09 to fix a 2002 vehicle that is not even two years old and has 44,176 miles on it. Most of the miles on this vehicle were highway miles always driven with overdrive on and only was something towed. This vehicle has the towing package in it so this problem should not have happened. My warranty was 3 years/36,000 miles. Truck is now at aamco with transmission being rebuilt.
