On or around June 4, 2022 I was driving my truck and had my enclosed trailer attached. I went to put my trailer up in storage and noticed my tailgate had opened on its own. This has caused damage to my tailgate and is a major safety concern that the tailgate is opening on its own.

The truck tailgate opens unintentionally and with no notice. This has happened several times, seemingly randomly, and there is no notice from the driver seat that the tailgate has opened, other than visually looking via rear view mirror or from the outside of the truck. I am not able to reproduce the malfunction, as it happens randomly. So far, it appears to happen mostly when parked and/or when switching between park/drive/reverse. I have not positively confirmed the tailgate opening while the vehicle is in motion, but definitely have noticed it was open while driving after pulling into a parking space, reversing out, and then continuing to drive. The vehicle is available for inspection anytime. Luckily, this malfunction hasn't caused any damage yet, but if it were to happen while towing it would damage the truck and/or trailer, and if it were to happen with a load in the truck bed, I'd be at risk of losing the load, potentially unknowingly while driving. No indications or warning lamps are present when the tailgate opens on its own. I first noticed this happening in June 2021, but didn't think much of it. It happened again in August 2021, and then happened several times during the day of Sept 4, 2021.

The tailgate on my Ford F350 was repaired last year from the recall pertaining to the tailgate opening on its own. The tailgate opened on its own again today. 02/26/2021. The first time it happened I was turning right from a main city street onto a side street going about 10 mph. Today I was going about 5 mph and turned left into a parking lot.

A Ford truck tailgate recall has satisfied federal safety regulators who opened an investigation in October 2018 following complaints about electric tailgates that suddenly opened. The investigation opened by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) included electric tailgate problems in 2017-2019 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty trucks." This recall has not fixed this issue and the tailgate continues to open and is a safety issue. We have attempted to work with Ford Motor Company legal division for compensation and a solution to this but they will not cooperate. Until NHTSA recognize the recall is a failure, owners will continue to be a safety problem on our highways. When did this happen? multiple times! it has been to 5 dealerships trying to resolve this recall! the date listed below is the date we purchased our truck. Update: Vehicle has been repaired by a Ford dealer.

2019 F-350 with 8' bed and approx 1000 miles. 1st occurrence: Departed a campground towing a travel trailer (after doing 3 walk-around safety check prior to departing). Drove 10 miles to nearest gas station before getting on the highway where I discovered the tailgate was down and crushed by the travel trailer. Thinking back through my series of events; I was on level ground and did not reach down to disengage the parking brake below the gate release, I had a ground guide back me up out of my spot who confirmed gate was still up prior to departing, key was in the cup holder with no other objects. I reported this issue to the dealer(4 Sept 2019). They reviewed current recalls on my model and none were reported. I filed a claim with my insurance and absorbed the repair expenses. Important to note, there was a heavy thunderstorm the night prior to departing. 2nd occurrence: (while awaiting parts to repair damages from 1st occurrence) I departed work and just after turning left out of the parking spot still in the parking lot, the tailgate came open unintentionally for the second time during my 2 months of ownership. I immediately noticed it down when I looked in my rearview mirror and no damages from this occurrence.

I purchased this F350 new, and took delivery of this vehicle on December 12 2019. 8 times since receiving. This vehicle I have experienced eight (8) un commanded tailgate releases. I noticed that the tailgate was down when receiving a warning while backing. I have a tonneau cover on the truck which prevents the rear camera from showing the tailgate open. As of yet I have not lost any cargo as a result of this opening. I did not hit I the inside release, or the key fob to direct the opening.

At some point during a 2 hour interstate highway drive, the power tailgate opened itself. This damaged the tailgate itself, and severely damaged the front of the fifth wheel trailer that I was towing. The problem was noticed when we turned into our campground and heard a grinding/popping noise behind us.

Inadvertant tailgate opening. I have a 2019 Ford F-350 lariat Super Duty. The tailgate has opened 4 times within the first 800 miles of operation. There is no alert system in the casb to alert the driver the tailgate has opened. The only indication is an alert while backing to check the area. I have a toneau cover over the truck bed that obstructs the rear camera from alerting the driver. I was unaware the tailgate was open while driving the vehicle. Fortunately nothing fell out during the trips. This occurred on multiple occasions and different mileages.

Previous complaint #11160684. I took my new F-350 to framingham Ford for a "frozen" door latch on 1/17/18. They followed Ford recall 18N03 for 2017-18 models. I picked it up on 1/19/18 and the door would not latch again! it had been dry for three days. I don't think it is necessarily a frozen water issue. It might be something to due with cold. It was dry and cold, around 22 degrees both days the latch would not engage.

This is a 2019 F-350. The drivers door latch froze. I could not close the door until the truck warmed up and thawed. The weather and truck were dry and cold. It had rained two days earlier. This should not happen in 2019.
