I was driving along and turned the corner and the back door swung open. I pulled over and tried to shut the door and it would not shut. I tried to see what was wrong and the latch seemed to be in an open position but would not engage, . I did not know what to do I went to walmart and purchased some cord so I could tie the doors together. I searched the internet about the problem and there seem to be a problem with the Fiesta door latches. I took the car in to palm springs Ford on Friday, November 14 2014 and after 2 hours was advised it was not covered under the warranty since my warranty was expired after 36,000 miles and they want over 300 dollars with parts and labor to fix the door latch that is obviously should of been a recall from Ford since so many people have had that problem with the latches. The service advisor stated that I should call the customer service line which I did and they opened up a case which I handed back to the service advisor, and got a call several days later to advise me that my warranty is out and I would have to pay. I asked the service advisor to have his manager call me. A few hours later the service advisor called back and stated that his manager said he would give me the part at 1/2 price. I asked him to have his manager call me and to this date have not heard from him. I called twice today and asked the service advisor to cal me and still have not heard from him.. I don't' feel like I should have to put out that kind of money on a defective part when Ford knows that this part is defective.

Rear passenger door, driver's side. I opened the door to get something out, never coming close to the latch, and when I went to close it, the latch didn't latch. It could not be corrected with manually moving it. Have to take to shop now! only 37,000!

I opened the rear passenger door to vacuum my 2012 Ford Fiesta at a car wash and when I finished I noticed the door would not close. The latch will not catch the door. I had to drive all the way home with my rear door open risking it swinging open in traffic. I'm currently awaiting a response from Ford.

I have a 2012 4-door Ford Fiesta. While the car was parked in the driveway, my 42 year old son opened the rear passenger side door, and was unable to close the door, as the latch failed. I called the dealer where I purchased the car from, and have, as yet, to hear from them. The door will not close, I cannot allow my 10 year old granddaughter, or anyone else to ride in the back seat, as it is a safety issue. I have tried to secure the door shut (tied down), but the interior light comes on when I drive over the slightest bump or make a turn, because the door is open. There is a constant warning on my dashboard about the open door. At night, it's difficult to drive with the interior lights on, another safety issue. The car is only 2+ years old. This should not be happening.

My daughter opened the rear passenger side of the 2012 Ford Fiesta and closed it and it did not close, it bounced back. We spent hours looking on the internet and youtube trying to find away of closing the door. After 4 hours in the sun trying to close the door we were able to shut it by pressing the lock button numerous times. A few days ago I was driving to work and the door opened and almost took off the door. Another time I was driving with family members accidentally opened the door. It took us 2 hours of locking and shutting, eventually we were able to close the door. This has caused a potential safety hazard for my your children and anyone that sits in the back seat. This is some sort of factory defect. Even if the door shuts I can never tell when it will open again and chuck a passenger out on the highway and potentially kill someone.

June 22nd 2014, my son's friend was getting out of the car and closed the rear passenger's door and it would no longer latch. I had to ratchet the 2 rear doors together to hold it shut. Repair cost was $300. Second incident was September 20th 2014, my son and I was at a family reunion 300 miles away from home, as we were leaving, he shut his front passenger door and it did not close, the door would not latch. I still had the ratchet in the car from the first failed door latch, so he rode in the back while I held the door shut ratcheted together to the front driver door. I have to get together the $300 to replace this failed latch. My question is that if the original parts for the doors failed, will the replacements do the same thing? I am thankful that my son and his friend was not injured, but maybe that is what they are waiting on before they fix this problem.

Rear passenger door of my 2012 Ford Fiesta will no longer close. The latch appears to be broken, as I can manually manipulate the latch but it does not latch when the door is closed. Luckily the latch broke after I had parked the vehicle, since children were riding in the back seat directly before the latch broke. I now have to keep the door closed via bungee cord. The door simply swings open while driving if the door is not held closed by the bungee cord. I no longer feel safe allowing anyone, especially children, to ride in the back seat of the vehicle since the door is not at all stable.

I was driving my vehicle at appx. 15 mph when the front passenger door opened on its own. I pulled over and tried to close the door; the door failed to latch or close again. I had to keep it closed with a bungee cord and drive to the dealership. I paid $450 for the repair. I am posting this now, after doing some research; because the same thing the happened the my rear passenger door. Now I will have to bungee that closed and drive, once again, to the dealership to pay another $450 for something that should be recalled. Please recall asap.

When driving after making a turn rear driver side door opened up. Had to pull over to check the door, when trying to close the door would bounce back and would not lock. This happened after I had just dropped off my niece at daycare. So glad it did not happen while she was in the car since she was in her car seat on that side. I have to have the door tied with a rope. Took the car to dealership and the one of the service advisors said that since the car was not under warranty anymore I would have to pay $400 in order for the part to be ordered plus labor (my car was not even taken to mechanics to be checked).

Trying to close my passenger rear door, the door would not close. Thinking there was something ajar tried to maneuver items in the backseat but investigating closely the door latch, it was just in a stationary position. I had a lanyard from work that I cut to make a long string to use as a rope to get me to my house and borrowed a bungee cord from my apartment complex to drive the few miles to the Ford dealership. This was a Friday and when I called they almost tried telling me there wasn't much they could seeing it was a Friday afternoon. I let them have an earful telling them this was a security and safety issue and I have no way of locking my car or securing my car bc of a faulty door. It would be just sitting outside bc I have no garage or a way to even close the door. And even after that they were expecting me to pay for a rental! well bottom line is I didn't have to pay for a rental.

Six months ago I had been to the dealers for a failed door latch on my rear passenger door and lightning struck again. I was beginning to feel like a pro. Went to the store and loaded the front seat this time with groceries and went to close it and it just bounced back. In a way I was grateful because I knew what was wrong but at the same time I was like are you kidding? I was in a location where I could retrieve a bungee cord from my place of business and luckily it was a Saturday and Ford was still open so I took it in and they could lock it up until Monday. They overnighted a part from another dealer and were able to install it late Tuesday night but as it so happened putting the latch and door back together, the right side window handle regulator broke and they hand to replace it. I ended up getting my car back on Thursday. So in a matter of six months I had two broken door latches on two different doors. I was grateful to be close to a Ford dealer but it concerns me for those who are not and those who might be traveling far distances and this happens. It concerned me that it all the warranties that my new car has and still has that this incident was not considered a safety concern that they would have paid for a rental car. Only reason they paid for it was because I called and raised a kerfuffle and pointed out the security and safety concerns and it actually had to be assigned a whole case number. Even after all of this I receive a notice in the mail about a warranty extension on mypower shift 6speed automatic transmission for excessive transmission clutch shudder caused by fluid contamination of the clutch due to leaking transmission seals. After all of this I will never buy a Ford again!!

My right rear door that is hardly ever used will not close due to the latch. I was 200 miles from home and it was labor day weekend so couldn't get to dealership. Had to buy a bungee cord to secure the door from the inside and it still opened slightly going around curves and backseat items almost fell out. My vehicle is a little over 2 years old but due to my job of driving frequently (driving children) I am well past the 36K warranty and will have to pay to fix this. Since I can't afford at the moment the battery needs to be disconnected since the lights stay on and the doors remain unlocked. This clearly needs to be addressed after so many complaints.

I had just closed the right rear door after loading material into the back seat. (this door has maybe been opened 10 times in the life of the car [2.5 years] as I never have rear seat passengers.) after leaving a parking lot yesterday and while traveling about 50mph, I noticed the open door warning light on the dash after which I noticed the right rear door was ajar. I stopped the car, opened the door and attempted to shut it again. It bounced back open. I tried fiddling with the latch and closing several times without success. Luckily I had a rope in the trunk so I tied the two rear doors together by the interior handles. I drove to my local Ford dealer and barely had begun to explain my problem when the attendant said she was aware of similar problems. Without looking at the door she told me the parts were on "backorder" leading me to believe the problem is widespread. Thankfully I don't have rear passengers, so I can deal with tied doors, but since I can't lock the car and the dome lights stay on, it is a big problem. She asked me to return in the am and leave the car for them to look at. They would try to make a temp fix while we waited for parts that might take a few weeks so I wouldn't have to disconnect the battery or pull fuses. This morning I left the car at the dealer where it sits as I write this. I found this NHTSA website chronicling similar problems as well as other references to the problem on other web sites. Of 81 total complaints made on this model on this NHTSA web page, 20 are for this exact problem. Those 20 complaints have all been within the most recent 50 complaints and all made in the past 10 weeks. Something is wearing out and it won't be long before a child, pet, suitcase or bag of groceries falls out resulting in death. Don't wait for that to happen. Get this recalled now nationwide!

We bought the car not even 2 months ago and went to put my kid in his car seat and the rear passenger door wouldn't shut. We had to move him to the driver side and hold the other door locked with the seatbelt in order to get back 30 minutes away from where we live. We have 2 young kids both in carseats and knowing that the door could just open at anytime while kids are riding in the back seat worries me for my kids and others kids who have this car! with so many people complaining the same thing you would think it would have been recalled by now for that reason. What does it take before they finally decide to recall it" something end up happening to someone's son or daughter all because they don't do something about it when they are aware of the situation" the part was even on back order for the same year and car because it happened so often to people with a 2012 Ford Fiesta.

Right rear passenger door will not stay closed/latch. I opened the right, rear passenger door to put my child in his carseat this morning. Upon closing of the door I found that it would not latch. We verified the latch was in the correct position so that the door should close normally. However the door would not stay shut or "click" to latch. I had to ducttape the door closed to take him to daycare. I assume this must be a manufacturing defect. I dropped the car off at the dealership for warranty service this afternoon. I should not have to worry about the doors that protect my children might open at any time for no good reason. I am certain the door has never been abused or closed with excessive force, ever. There is something really wrong here.
