Probably just because of the cold weather here in Colorado, but one morning I unlocked the car manually of course because the driver door doesn't unlock with out the key.. but when I went to close the driver door it was like the lock was stuck down or something. The door kept bouncing off the frame and wouldn't close at all! I finally put my pinky up where the lock is on the inside of the door and pushed up and it moved. When I let go it went back down and still wouldn't close, so I held it up with my finger as I closed it, and almost slammed my finger in the door! But I finally got it to close.. has only happened a few times.

My 2007 ford focus rear door also will not lock manually or with the remote. Report this issue on Safercar.gov https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ This is a safety issue because our kids can just open the rear door because you have no ability to lock the door and/or use the child safety lock feature. This happened to my 2007 Focus and dealer asked for $500. Please report all car issues to the people who force the Auto companies we just bailed out to fix our cars. You are leaving the public at risk. If your kid or a disabled passenger opens the door moving down the highway and falls out of the car because of this issue; Ford is going to pay big time lawsuits on this one. REPORT REPORT REPORT!!! Will you help each other and submit your car safety issues to the authorities? Please let me know if there is something else I can do to get FORD to Fix this issue!

You have to use the key to lock and unlock the drivers door. The other doors work with the remote. Its a pain in the neck.

Update from Feb 15, 2011: I fixed it myself. The part was $135 from Ford. I had to replace the entire door latch mechanism. Getting the door apart and the latch mechanism out took a few hours and lots of aggravation. I would not recommend trying to do this yourself. I was told the dealer charges about $400 for the labor.

Another problem that I have to pay for because my warrant has expored. The car is only three years old and has less than 20,000miles and the door remote doesn't work. I thought I was doing good by buying American and would be easy on maintance but that's a laugh I should have stuck to my forgien cars. I had no major problems with time and especially not the problems I'm having with a car that was purchase brand new with 19 miles on it.
