Focus S 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,177 miles

Transmission slips when accelerating between 20-60 km per hour, and occasionally on highway.

Lags when accelerating, gas pedal is down but doesn't accelerate. This is an issue when trying to merge at high speeds. Unsafe!

Update from Dec 5, 2020: Service replaced the clutch. Still happening

Update from Dec 5, 2020: Also replaced TCM and actuator on subsequent visits to the service department. Still occurring, not fixed

Focus SEL 4dr Hatchback 2.0L-Liter I-4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

Even with this version of the vehicle, the transmission has just as many problems as the 2016 version. I almost got into an accident when someone drove me into another lane. I hit the gas but the car just screamed like it was in a low gear. I rapidly decelerated. I thought the guy behind me in the new lane was going to hit me. Luckily he avoided but this kind of thing should never happen.

Sometimes instead of shifting this thing just screams into a high RPM, as far 8,000. I know that for a L4, that is not 'that' bad but it is a good way to spin a bearing when it slaps into gear. The amount of damage this thing is causing to itself... I hope it fails before my warranty is up. Otherwise I am parking in in the lawn at the Ford Proving grounds and walking away.

As an automotive engineer, I can't believe the arrogance of the engineers that signed off on the release of this transmission. They should be held accountable.

I hate this car. I wish I had never bought it but now I feel like I am in a debt prison trying to pay for it.

Focus SE 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 11,000 miles

Ford selling these cars with terrible transmission without telling people. Having to drive the car by not coasting because the clutch is slipping, accelerating fast from a stop, wait for cars ahead of you to move forward before you take off, using your brake as much as you can because it act as a clutch. Does this sound like you are driving an automatic? If I have to think about all this, I should have bought a manual. They keep saying "Well you still have a lot of warranty left". Well that is telling me after that you are SOL. I have been a FORD customer since 1977 when I bought my first and now I believe this is gonna be my last. Has anybody have any luck with repairs or buy backs with 2017 Focus power Shift transmission
