problem #1

Jun 092007

Freestar 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles
While applying brakes, a grinding noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. Upon getting the vehicle checked it was discovered that the inner brake pads were worn down to the bare metal, while the outside brake pads were in new condition. The front brakes were assessed at 80% remaining life. New pads, calipers, and rotors were required to fix the problem. The cause of the problem: The brake caliper bracket (caliper slide) seized up, causing the caliper to sit offset, and thus wear the brake pads prematurely and unevenly. The van had 30,000 miles on it, and was just off of bumper to bumper warranty. Ford was not willing to cover any cost of repairs.
