We, me and wife, Have had the Freestar for approx. 8 years. We do not drive very much as you can see by the miles (less than 95,00 miles). In the last few months, I have had the car, as my wife has a new one, and I needed a replacement for my 2001 Windstar. It seems when you are driving on a straight highway or road with the steering wheel in the center spot, and the vehicle moves to the left or right, normal driving, and you try to correct it, it seems to have a dead spot in the steering, and to correct the position in the driving lane, it seems you are over-correcting when you turn the steering wheel just a bit off center. I find it seems to be getting worse rather than better. I was wondering if the has been a recall on the steering, as I do not think I am the only one with this problem. It seems to me that Ford has made a few big boo boo' with this model, with the transmission, rust, brake system and of course, the under panel and frame rust outs.
