problem #2

Freestar

A few days ago, with no prior problems or warning, the liftgate door would not go up on it's own. I tried to open it up to put my mom's wheelchair into the back of the van when it fell down on my head. Not only did I get a bump on my head, but the wheelchair bruised my arm pretty good as I tried to hold the very heavy liftgate open! After calling around and finding out that this will cost me hundreds of dollars that I DON'T have, my husband and I decided to try propping the liftgate with a two-by-four when needed. As if this isn't bad enough, three days later when trying to get into the back of the van, the liftgate handle came right off into my hand! It does not appear broken, but it's off and now I have no access to my cargo area of my van at all! The Ford dealer in my area wants to charge $98 just to "diagnose" the problem, even though he already told me exactly what the problem is and how they will fix it, and it will , of course, cost hundreds of dollars to fix! I expect Ford to RECALL this issue!!!!!!!!! I've just read many posts with the same issue! Why should we have to pay hundreds of dollars to re-insert a door handle? Or fix a liftgate that should last the life of the vehicle?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freestar Limited Advanced Trax 4.2L

  • Automatic transmission

Both lift gate struts failed at the same time. This caused the liftgate to fall. While researching another issue, I found that there was a recall on 2005 Ford Freestar with a power liftgate. My van does NOT have a power lift gate, however there is an investigation conserning non power liftgates.
