I have a 2005 Freestar sport van. When it is relatively hot outside and I've driven for about an hour or so, there is this loud squealing noise coming from the front of my van. It is very annoying and gets louder with time traveled. I've taken this van back to the dealer from where it was purchased. They've replaced the brake pads saying that this could be the problem. It didn't change, the squealing kept coming. The mechanic said that he had done some form of research through the internet and thinks it could be the wheel bearing. What a scare this is!!!!! has anyone had this same problem"? the garage will not do anything about it until I can bring it in while it is still squealing so they can take it for a roadtest. It's been a year since I've bought this van from a reputable garage in cambridge, Ontario. I'm scared to go anywhere with it especially with my grandchildren in the van when we go on holidays. Is there a great concern here???"----------please email me back with some info to [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

My 2005 Ford Freestar minivan while backing out of a driveway stop working. The van would not go into drive or reverse. We had the van towed to the local Ford dealership. The torque converter broke. This happened suddenly and with no warning. We were lucky it was in a drive way and not on a highway or in a busy intersection. I have come to find out this is a common problem with Freestar minivans. The van needs to be recalled and this problem needs to be fixed on all Freestars before someone is killed. The Ford Freestar is unsafe and Ford needs to fix this problem.

Was driving home with wife and kids, traveling approx 45-50 mph when van suddenly stopped pulling and RPM's went sky high. It acted like it was in neutral and was barely able to get it over to the side of the road. Had it towed home ($125) and went out next morning and checked all fuses, all good, transmission fluid was full, no warning lights on dash, no indication of anything wrong. Haven't been able to take anywhere yet to have it checked, because of labor day and my being on duty on Tuesday. It sounds like the same problem numerous people on the edmonds.com site has had. I think these transmissions should be recalled before someone gets killed from their vans shutting down in traffic.
