Freestyle SEL 3.0L V6

At the beginning of Spring last year, the driver seat would be soaked after a good rain. When I brought it to the mechanic I was told the seals on the moon roof had failed and would need servicing at a Ford Dealer to properly fix the problem. I checked that out and after an estimate of $1500 to replace most of the trim, seals, mechanical linkage and possibly the glass as well, I passed. In the end, I pulled the 20A fuse controlling the moon roof from the block and used a can of Spray Seal (spray on rubber) after masking off the glass and surrounding body. That worked.

I was incredibly happy with the vehicle on purchase (bought used a little over a year ago). Late this summer, I noticed a mildew odor and assumed that the sunroof was leaking. (I almost didn't buy the car because it had a sunroof, but it was the only Freestyle in the area and I was heart set on it.)

I tried to call the service department of the dealership that sold me the car and never received a return call. After our first bout of heavy rains hit Washington, I noticed water POURING from the third row seat belt. I couldn't wait for the dealer anymore and took it to a third party garage, who was unable to duplicate the leak and told me it was the lift gate seal. I had that repaired, thinking the problem was solved (conveniently, the heavy rains abated). I took the car in to have an ozone treatment (after months of leaking there was a mildew smell that I could not get rid of). The treatment worked, but when I went to pick up my vehicle (it had been raining), and there was more water draining from the same spot. I have since found many complaints online about the same issue, and Ford's refusal to issue a recall. I took my car back to the mechanic and made them aware of the TSB Ford had sent out on the faulty drains, which is currently being looked at.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that re-routing the drains will solve the problem. I refuse to continue to take the car in to have the same issue corrected, and if the leak continues I am getting rid of the car. It is too stressful to worry about mold issues, which is sad because on all other counts this is a great vehicle. I am never purchasing a car with a sun/moon roof again. It is frustrating that Ford only issued a service bulletin and not a recall, which CLEARLY needs to be done. If they took care of this issue I would be more inclined to stay with Ford, but this has soured me on the company (I owned a Saturn Vue for 7 years that was almost entirely maintenance free and a dream to own).
