I literally just bought this Ford Fusion Titanium 2013 from Carmax yesterday and drove it the same day to an event when the transmission started having problems shifting. It felt as though the car was stalling like a manual transmission even though I was in regular drive mode. The car decelerated and I was in a lane where it came to a complete stop. I had traffic coming from the back and luckily didn't get rear ended. It was a scary situation since I had just bought the car. I started reading reviews on this website and should have read them prior to purchasing the car but I didn't know that this website existed which has been helpful since I have read similar stories. There are 3 noted recalls that Carmax provided me with but this issue is not on the list even though many others have experienced a similar issue. I am also worried about the gas mileage mentioned in the posts. I feel as though this is a lemon and would like to exercise my return option with Carmax. I really like the features of the car but this has me concerned.

My wife bought this car new in Feb 2013. That summer, probably August, she was driving (in town - slow, stop & go) and the dash went black and the car shut off. Nothing on but the radio. (Sounds like a country song, right?). She stopped and it started right up and she continued on her way. Called Ford and reported it. A few weeks later it happened again. Took it in to Ford. No fault codes, could not replicate the problem, so no action taken by Ford. Several months later it happened again. Same thing - dash went black, engine shut off, radio still playing. Started right up. Again, no warning lights. Took it back to Ford. They kept it for a week. Said they could not replicate the problem, but replaced a sensor in/on the fuel line. No more problems for a long time, THEN, on 12-24-15 we were going down the interstate at 75-80 mph in pretty heavy traffic and it shut off again! Somehow made it to the side of the road without getting run over. Started right up. It went back to Ford this week. Still no fault codes and they have no idea why it is doing this. Ready to let them keep it! (I know this should have been split into individual incidents, but I wanted to show the overall picture)

If you're driving down the interstate in in the fast lane the last thing you want is to lose all power to the car. When I say all power, I mean ALL power. I was just driving along to work doing about 75 mph minding my own business when suddenly the radio shuts off along with a few other things like the assisted brakes, the center stack, both screens on either side of the speedometer, the speedometer itself, the A/C, and last but certainly not least, the engine. The most terrifying thing however, not having to put almost my entire body weight on the brake pedal, was having the steering wheel lock up. I noticed it when I tried to coast the car over onto the emergency lane. At first I had thought that the power steering had gone out (which it did), but then after realizing that the wheel won't turn AT ALL I felt just a "tad" bit worried. I stopped myself from panicking however and stood on the break pedal as the car drifted into the median. Luckily there wasn't much traffic so I didn't get into an accident, but the way back from work was always busy. With the car stopped and my adrenaline rushing, my trembling hands turned the key from the on to off position and I proceeded to try and restart the car. To my suprise it fired right up; no check engine lights, ABS alerts, or power steering signals. I immediately proceeded to take it to the closest ford dealer which was at the next exit. On my way there and with my nerves calming, I went to put on some music. This was odd however because all of my presets had been changed, the GPS no longer knew where my home was and kept prompting me to enter it, the A/C settings had been changed, and my phone wouldn't even automtically connect to Bluetooth. When I got to the ford dealer the mechanics sang their favorite song, " we couldn't replicate the problem sir". Telling them that I could have possibly lost my life didn't do anything (after that I demonstrated my "French" speaking ability to the shop workers). Angrily and heavily frustrated, I left for work. This same thing happened THREE more times after that all within 6 months. I still think it's a miracle that there were no accidents caused by this problem. The final fix however solved all the problems. A mechanic at Autonation ford puts it best, " just replace the whole damn computer "; so that's what we did. And $600 later the car hasn't tried to kill me since.

This is the pattern that's been happening: driving for 30 minutes then parking the car, wait 10 minutes, restart car, backup, and go forward, engine stops...this could happen several times in a day so far this is the pattern, I've been to my dealership 5 times, first time I think they didn't take me seriously, they kept the car, let the motor run and took it for a ride of course nothing happened, so they did a reset on the module. Brought the car home and it happened again, I brought the car back for a second time, they changed a module which one? In French they call it Capteur...I specified that they needed to recreate the pattern to see what the car does...they called me back and said, the car is fine pick it up, I brought it home and again the engine stopped...called them again, returned the car and force them to get in the car with me and bring their whatever they call it tester, well it happened, the engine stopped....So I'm saying to myself wow now we're getting somewhere. They changed another module, this time something to do with the fuel pump, by the way that machine they hooked up to the car did not register anything except an unusual amount of pressure somewhere in the fuel pump but nothing else. Went back home and again and again and again...the engine quit on me.

By this time I'm hesitant to bring back the car, I simply don't trust them, they called me and asked how the car was doing, told them same story...they asked me to bring it back, I asked why, they answered well we will have too take a better look at it....now, just that comment made things worse.

What they need to understand is the toll it's taken on me, I'm scared of the car, when the engine quits, I'm engaging my car on the road, several times my car stopped in the middle of a crossing road, cars had to stop in order to avoid an accident. No one want to get in my car which makes sense, I have changed my way of driving this car because I'm frightened, I called Ford and waiting for a call back, the car is at the dealership again!!!

Anyone have an idea what the problem may be? has anyone heard of this problem before?

P.S. Sorry for the spelling and vocabulary I'm from Quebec, Canada.

Update from Feb 4, 2019: The problem was resolved after a while, the fuel sensor was replaced...

After all these problems I got rid of the car, traded in for a Infinity.

No more Ford, worst car ever.

Driving and lost all power. Several different alerts light up and realized I had no power steering or acceleration. Able to slow car to stop. Shifted car into park and tried to turn on, but no response. With key in ignition, radio and center console works, but no function of dash. While waiting with disabled vehicle and hazard lights on, only lights blinking were on side-view mirrors. When attempting to unlock car for tow truck, driver-side door would not unlock with remote, had to put key in lock.

Bought the car as a dealer demo. Great car, totally loaded. In the first two days, the car died 12 times within 100 yards of startup. It would stutter for a second and then die. No codes or warning lights. Once restarted, the car would be fine. Has happened repeatedly. Took car back to dealer where they said they could not replicate the problem in a week. I went up and drove it once and it died immediately. They were unable to replicate it. They are bringing it back to me tonight with no explanation.

The Ford Fusion that I just got out of the Shop a little more. than a week ago experienced a total system failure. All monitoring systems, even the tire pressure, failed all at once. The big issue was the brakes engaged while traveling at highway speed and in heavy traffic (lots of trucks). Was able to narrowly miss being hit by a semi tractor trailer or two and get off the road, barely.

Called Ford Customer Service and roadside assistance (had purchased premium extended warranty), towed to the nearest Ford dealer. We were 600 miles from home and needed a rental car and could not get Ford to respond to my calls to authorize a rental car. I was treated rudely and most of the calls were not returned by several of the customer service people I desperately tried to reach for assistance.

Ford does not make reliable vehicles, does not stand behind their products, and stonewalls any efforts to get Ford to step and make it right for the customer.

Once Ford has your money they want nothing to do with you. They may have to take responsibility for the junk they produce and hide behind the states lemon law, which they probably wrote, to keep on inflicting harm on the customer. (Their way of giving you the finger).

I even contacted the CEO (Alan Mulally), because I heard he was a standup kind of guy. I have never heard from him or Ford. The only contact I have had with Ford has been by my initiating the call and they never follow up on anything.

Bottom line, save yourself a lot grief and do not by a Ford. I will never again. I regret owning the two Fords I still currently own. (I soon hope to fix that problem also). Anyone want to buy a Ford? I didn't think so.
