The Ford dealer told me that my 2017 Ford Fusion has "swollen lug nuts" and must be replaced. They said that there is a potential for the lug nuts to fail and the wheel would fall off while driving. This will be at my own expense. My car has less than 22,000 miles on it and I feel that this a design/manufacturing issue on the part of Ford Motor Company.

Upon trying to stop at a stop sign my son was unable to stop in time and rolled into the roadway which caused a collision with another vehicle. He depressed the brakes and clearly heard a grinding noise and never felt the pumping feeling under his foot for the antilock breaks. He thought he couldnt stop due to ice on the roadway, but have since seen the brake recall on my vehicle. The accident caused the vehicle to become a total loss. The witnesses said my son stopped at the stop sing and pulled into the roadway in front of car going 50mph. That could not have happened by the angle of the car at the time of the accident. Had he stopped like the 'witnesses" said, he would have entered the roadway a couple second later and then become t-boned by the other car. He was hit on the rear quarterfinal coinciding with my sons story he could not stop. My son has held to his story that he tried to stop and the car would not stop. I have felt on occasion since Dec my brakes feeling a little off at times but never on a consistant basis to get it looked at. My vehicle had a small leakage in Dec which we could not locate and it never occurred since. We checked the brake fluid and all fluids routinely since. Never seen the leak since. I also put four brand new tires on my vehicle two days prior to the accident. It does appear in the photos after the accident there were new parts on the wheel in the area of the brakes. I only owned this vehicle for 9 months prior to this incident.

This is for a 2017 Ford Fusion Platinum. Lug nuts have deformed and have to replaced at ~63,000miles. Why" Shops do the regular rotation and balance. I had a 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium and had the same results at different shops for the same rotation and balance. Why" My father's 1978 F100 had 430,000+ and were original. Quality is now poor. Les Schwab looked and said they needed to be replaced now. We can't check the torques.

Was told all 20 Lug Nuts were swollen and needed replacing. After paying $219.80 and researching this I saw that numerous people were compiling about having to pay for something that Ford created and is a know major issue for. I then cam upon this site & form.

The lug nuts on the wheels have "swelled" so that the wheels cannot be removed in an emergency for replacement. This problem is well known and was pointed out to me a a danger when I had my wheels rotated. The shiny metal covering the steel lug nut separates preventing the lug nut wrench from fitting and allowing for removal of the lug nut. 2017 Ford Fusion Energy Titanium

Swollen lug nuts that can-€™t be removed because they have swollen to be too large for the included jack as well as any other 19mm socket. My 2011 fusion had this problem and I spent approx $200+ to fix for all wheels inc labor (was labor intensive to strip off outer casing of swollen lugs), now my 2017 fusion has the same issue and I cannot out on a spare to replace my completely flat tire- will need to get towed to fix

Lug nuts on 2017 Ford Fusion SE swollen/distorted and very difficult to remove from tire. It is available for inspection upon request. There is potential for safety risk due to driving with these damaged lug nuts as one may break, causing the added weight to shift to the other lug nuts, breaking them as well and worst case scenario my wheels comes off while I-€™m driving. Problem was identified/presented itself during the process of attempting to get state inspection when car failed for rear brakes and independent service member was trying to charge $300 to replace, attempted to change out brakes on own as well as through personal mechanic, which is when true problem with lug nuts came to fruition. Even unable to take them off with included lug removal tool that came with car as well as universal lug wrench. Now in the process of going to get lug nuts inspected, extracted and replaced via professional, independent service center. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and the issue first appeared on August 14, 2021.

Our 3 year old vehicle, which has only been serviced by our local Ford dealer and has less than 50,000 miles on it, required the lug nuts to be replaced on all wheels because of swelling, creating a dangerous condition for the car. I understand the problem to be caused do to poor engineering by Ford by combining several metals together when creating each lug nut that over time fail. These lug nuts should E recalled and replaced at the dealers cost by a replacement that can withstand normal operation.

Turning into my neighborhood at about 10-15 mph the left wheel and hub fell off causing the car to crash into the pavement. This caused alot of damage to the front bumper and fenders. And the linkage to the right wheel. Ford said it was because I hit something but I did not hit anything and my car stopped dead in the middle of the road.

Notified by dealer that lug nuts have 'swollen' and are difficult to remove. The lug nuts should be replaced according to the dealer. If not replaced, the lug nuts could be difficult or impossible to remove in an emergency situation.

Stationary vehicle - dealer couldn't rotate the tires because the lug nuts were swollen. I was told that I could buy new lug nuts for $140. The technician stated that there is a class action law suit against Ford for the lug nut issue. Potential problem would be if I had a flat while on the road and could not fix because the lug nuts were swollen, which could cause safety issue.

I was driving through san juan capistrano California evening of Jan 3rd 2018 West bound on hwy 74 having just past the overpass on I-5. I was only going about 30 mph and the steering suddenly stopped working and my car floated over and I could not stop it or steer. It was the strangest thing I ever experienced. I felt the sensors in the car suck in. My car bounced over the curb and the right front wheel was torn off it. The insurance company totaled my car out and the loss of my car has been significant loss of income and ability to work too. I lost so much over this car being totaled. I has usaa auto insurance and gap coverage on the note. However I had no idea about how insurance and the ability to restore insurance would be affected. I have had to see this as an at fault accident and it raised my insurance and impacts me negatively in many ways financially. Airbags did not deploy I attached loss docs, I have pics of car as well as wheel well where wheel was pulled off after bouncing over the high curb.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle pulled to the left and swayed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Before making an appointment with sheehy Ford of marlow heights (5000 auth rd, marlow heights, md 20746 (301) 423-4950), the vehicle started pulling to the right. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the tires needed air. Another technician diagnosed the vehicle and revealed that the front camber and rear toe failed. The repairs needed were unknown and the vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was also taken for a test drive, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to make an appointment with the local dealer. The contact stated that the gear shift also started to shift inadvertently from drive to neutral. The vehicle was taken back to sheehy Ford of marlow, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified once again and informed the contact to make an appointment. On November 1, 2017, while driving 25 mph, the vehicle shifted to the right, struck two other vehicles, flipped over, and landed on its roof. All of the air bags deployed. The contact sustained bruises all over the body and injuries to the neck, back, left hip, both shoulders, and both knees. The contact was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and was awaiting inspection from the insurance company. The manufacturer was notified and a case was opened. The initial failure mileage was approximately 15 and the crash occurred at approximately 3,200 miles.
