While driving on the highway schedule steering service came up on the dashboard. Just after pulling over the power steering failed and I could not control the steering as it was suddenly extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. This is an extremely dangerous situation which apparently both Ford and the safety board are aware of. Why on earth would the 2011 models be recalled for this identical problem, but not the 2010 models with the same part. My family could have been killed- would that have triggered a recall ?

Takata recall-dropped my 2010 Fusion off on Wednesday after 4 months waiting for the part to be in. Asked to have an oil change done while it was being worked on. I go to pick it up Saturday and drop off the rental only to find my vehicle with no power steering, power steering fault, service advance trac system. I recently herniated a disc in my back and do not possess the strength to turn the wheel, rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive without power steering. My Fusion never left the service bay. I get a call Monday from sheehy Ford service, telling me that I need a new rack and pinion to the tune of $2400, due to the electronic steering being an enclosed unserviceable system. Sheehy refused to acknowledge that they caused this failure during the course of my oil change and recall replacement of the passenger side airbag. They quoted me $1049 for an after market rack and offered to pay for it if I could prove that it was something they did to cause the failure. After hours of speaking to the service manager and assistant manager they told me that they stopped paying for the rental when I did not drive my unsafe vehicle home. By Wednesday waiting for a return phone call about any other options and calling Ford because there was a recall for the power steering on 11S and 12S, as suggested by the service manager, I told them to go ahead an order the after market rack. Thursday they call to tell me its ready. As I run home to grab the keys for the rental, leaving it in front of my house with my phone, computer, and other items still inside, Ford had sent a tow truck to repossess the rental. County police being called, rental towed, cab to the dealer, pay the $1049, and end up getting charged over $300 by the rental company since Ford refused to pay while the power steering issue was being argued. Unsafe and absolutely appalling by sheehy and Ford.

I got a slow flat while driving my 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid, which engaged the "low tire pressure" warning on the in-dash message center. Soon after that notification appeared the "service power steering now" (in red text, so definitely not good) and "service advancetrac" (in yellow) messages followed. I pulled into a gas station to check the tire, and upon restarting the car realized I now had no power steering. After changing the tire the messages remained and power steering was still gone. I drove the hobbled car (luckily in a straight line) to the nearby huntersville Ford dealership, where it sits in the overnight lot now awaiting the bad news. How is such a dangerous issue, already identified within the same product line and generation, not being dealt with equally across the lineup?

I was just driving along on a city street going about 40 mph, and all of a sudden all the dashboard lights lit up, and I couldn't break very easily. I was in the middle of traffic, and I was worried someone was going to hit me, or I wasn't going to be able to break if someone cut me off. My car had been so reliable until that moment. My car didn't break the way it always did. It took a lot more pressure to break than normal, and the breaking was very delayed. I had a few very close calls, before I could pull over. It was scary! the dealership had to replace my ABS module and my hydraulic control unit, which was very expensive. I know the NHTSA is looking into many complaints of the same issue for 2010 Ford Fusion. If other vehicles are having the same issue, this should be a recall!

While driving approximately 35 mph on a city street the advance trac warning light came on followed by messages to "service advancetrac" and "service power steering now". I was able to drive home safely without any real difficulty, but when I attempted to move the car the next morning the power steering was inoperable and I had to have the car towed to the dealership because I felt it would be unsafe to drive due to steering unresponsiveness. Dreading the diagnosis and cost to repair.

While on travel, I went to start my car and got a warning message that the power steering needed to be serviced. There was no earlier indication (noise, periodic failure, etc.) that power steering was on the way out. Thankfully I was not driving at the time. Online research revealed a recall for nearly all later models 2011-2015, but not mine for the exact same issue.

While driving at 30 mph, service advance trac lights came on dash, followed by red service power steering light on dash, then service power steering now light and loss of power steering. Extremely difficult to steer into parking space. Not drivable. Towed to dealer. Supposedly repaired after 3 days at dealer. Six days later same thing happened, still in my driveway, not yet towed back to dealer.

While pulling out emerging on the highway traffic going approximately 25 mph, I felt a slight shutter in the cars service advancetrac warning light came on. This issue occurred at approximately 25,000 miles as well but the problem cleared itself after a few days in the Ford dealership could not find an error code. We tried turning off and restarting the car as well as using the advance trac button but it doesn't work.

This is the 3rd incident of this same problem, first time reporting it to NHTSA. 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid was traveling at 35mph, normal conditions and abruptly lost all power to the steering system. Steering was almost impossible to influence, hence causing an extremely unsafe condition. Advanctrac also had faults on dash, and would not operate. Rumors indicate this problem is caused by low voltage, tire pressure low, or other issues. This issue could easily lead to injuries and/or death due to this malfunction. Widespread reports of this issue are on the internet, but have not been reported.
