When replacing the brakes I noticed water in the underpan at the engine. Saw leak coming from behind the water pump. Had to have it replaced.

Had just had the spark plugs replaced, cost $330.00 for this service! First time I drove my car after bringing it home, noticed smell of coolant heating. Checked it out, noticed water dripping from under the water pump.

Took it in, they called, said it was the water pump; had to be replaced but they did not have the parts. Hopefully the parts will arrive tomorrow, Wednesday. I was scheduled to drive to Albuquerque N.M. Thursday, hope my car is repaired before then.

Told it was covered by the warranty. Hopefully, they will not find some other service to perform so that they can charge me for it. When the spark plugs were changed, they recommended a Fuel System Service (cost of $200+). Declined, hadn't experienced any fuel system problems!

Need to inquire about air bag problem. Received a letter July 2015, from Ford Motor Company, Customer Service Division, notifying me of a safety recall on my car. The Air Bags are supposed to be replaced. Nothing since then!!

No warranty on new pump and seal, took 5 days to obtain replacement parts, noticed car overheating as I was driving home, tried dealer but was told no one available to speak with me. I wanted to know their opinion on trying to make it to dealership, approx. 8 miles, or pull over and turn off???? so, it overheated and shut off...coasted to the side and waited in 90 degree heat for tow. Even tho dealer service open til 7, and this happened just before 2pm, no one looked at it til Monday. I didn't get car back til Thursday eve. Then dealer tried to add in parts I didn't need: new air and cabin filter (already replaced last year - checked manual, not due yet, Cleaning ignition something...totally bogus. Never, ever Ford again. Never ever Autoway dealer again.

Took the car in to the Ford dealership when detected leak. They told me it was the water pump leaking and it is under warranty. They said pump was on back order that they might get one by 12/17/15. They don't stand behind their warranty and take care their customers with a loaner car.

2013 Mustang with 45000 miles started smelling coolant - next day coolant all over driveway. Made it to dealer without overheating and advised that water pump failed. Got a loaner from dealer 2 days later. Here's the interesting part - Ford has designed a new water pump for 3.7v6 engine and not yet available to dealers. Was told it could be 6 weeks before delivery. Dealer was great about this and have loaner free for as long as needed. Repair is covered under limited drivetrain warranty. Appears to be a significant problem for a newly designed part to be manufactured. Glad they couldn't get a replacement of existing water pump - would probably have failed again. Other than this there is one issue with airbags needing replacement as part of Tanaka recall. However, I really like this car - it's a fun car to drive, looks great and 305 HP puts you back in the seat. Would buy another one tomorrow!

Water pumps should not wear less than 80k! Very disappointed that after having a 2 year old car I need to replace the water pump ahead of changing the tires.

I placed a call to Ford Customer Care (1-800-241-3673) today and they said that I was the only one that has complained however a simple Google search found many people saying their water pump went at around 30-40k miles.

Mustang Premium 3.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles

The water pump went out at 42000 miles which I think is ridiculous. I've had many cars over the years and with WAY more mileage and have never had a water pump go out. It was nice that it was covered under warranty but definitely leaves me concerned about the future of it going out again. Noticed that it had a weird smell for 2 days and the 3rd day, saw the temperature gauge all the way up and pulled over and fluid spilled out everywhere. And this all happened on vacation so a big pain. Hopefully, it doesn't happen again but I'm not holding my breath.
