Ranger XL 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 128,251 miles

THIS STUFF SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, BUT CEO'S HAVE TO GET THAT BIG MONEY SOME WHERE. I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW VEHICLE, BECAUSE OF THE PRICE, SO I HAVE TO BUY USED. THIS TRUCK I BOUGHT FOR MY SON AFTER HIS MOTHER SUFFERED A SEVERS STROKE AND REALLY COULDN'T AFFORD IT, BUT HE HAD TO HAVE A WAY TO SCHOOL. THIS DOESN'T BOTHER ANYONE THOUGH AND I KNOW IT, SO JUST EVERY BODY KNOWS, MY WIFE, HIS MOTHER PASSED AWAY IN DECEMBER AND THAT MAKES THINGS MUCH HARDER. PAYING FOR A VEHICLE SHOULD BE EASIER THAN IT IS BUT IT'S JUST GOING TO GET WORSE. I SAW A USED CHEVY TRUCK ON-LINE LESS THAN 3K MILES BUT HAD A PRICE OF $49,977, THAT'S RIDICULOUS.

Ranger XLT 3.0lV6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

Well when you purchased this truck I feel now that the transmission was going out. If you purchase a vehicle make sure that your gearshift shows up on "D". If it is positioned off a little after, then don't buy because most likely you will having a transmission rebuilt or a new one put in.

Ranger XLT 4x4 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 184,000 miles

So, I got my 99 ford ranger 4x4 in July, automatic. Currently it has 183k almost 184k miles on it. It usually runs wonderfully without issue. But Today, I went out to warm up my truck, and he started up just fine. Then I started down the road and he started shaking, and i couldn't push the gas much because it was kind of stiff? if that makes sense. My RPM had a hard time getting past 3, it felt like something was stuck, or having a hard time shifting or something. When I was idling, he was shaking really bad, but when I put him in neutral, he wouldn't. and when I got to school, and got out, my truck kind of smelled like rubber, or something.

I'm trying to figure out what is causing this. It wants to shift into/out of o/d. Its doing a lot of chugging. It doesn't matter if o/d is off or on.What can we check to fix it?
