Ranger Edge 6 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 62,000 miles

The same thing as my first complaint, only a different cylinder...this time was cylinder one... Knowing what it was going to take, took it to a dealer, and they just made me waste my time, then after 70,000 miles the standard coverage expired. So I decided to have fixed by a TRUE PROFESSIONAL and another one of those clowns that work as mechanics at the dealers. All they want to do is lecture people about how good they'd like to be ,,,,, and wanting to do only oil changes and wiper blade replacements. So I took it to a real shop, and they had to replace the valves and some other adjustments...In other words,.,,,this Ranger turned out to be a piece of crap.....

I will never ever buy another Ford...that's for sure....!!!!!!!!

Ranger Edge 6 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 28,000 miles

Started stalling, getting worse as time went on. Took it to dealer the first time. They told me it was fixed and after a couple of weeks, the same condition came back (misfire cyl six). Took it again to a different dealer, and the same exact thing happened after two or three weeks. Then took it to another dealer, a third try, different dealer of course, and they did fix it. It took them over a week to get it done, and all I remember is that they said it was a major repair,....something about pulling the engine out, .

Ranger XL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

This problem with Rangers is addressed in Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 05-26-3. In certain 04-06 Ford Ranger engines, the valves malfunction because the heads are misaligned, apparently they were designed or manufactured incorrectly in the factory. With me, the problem started with a slight tremor in the engine around 30,000 miles. I took it to the dealer before the warranty was up and was told the tremor was "acceptable." About 40,000 miles the check engine light came on and a few thousand miles later the truck started to stall. I also noticed a loss of power. I had it checked and at least one of the cylinders had low compression. I had a $1300 valve job done. The mechanic told me the bases of the valves were flattened. Forty thousand miles later, the exact same thing happened. By then the TSB was out. The heads cost $900 and the labor $1,000. Ford did nothing. I really want to buy a good, dependable American car, but can't find one. Stay away from these trucks.

Ranger Edge 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 11,000 miles

I have the 2004 Ford Ranger Edge Ext Cab 2WD 4.0L V6 with the 5-spd auto transmission. Since about 11,000 miles, it has had a bad "lurching" once I hit 40 mph. After a bit of letting off the gas to smooth out the ride until the engine warms up a bit, it runs perfectly fine until it randomly, I guess misfires, and will throw you for a ride of checking the gauges to see if any idiot lights are coming up, but none ever do. I have taken it to the dealer under warranty, and have gotten the "It is a lean-idle-out sensor and is perfectly normal" speech knowing good and well they were trying to get me to run it out of the warranty so they would not have to repair it at their cost. There is no way this can be normal when it sometimes barks the tires and causes anything in the truck to slide forward. It will misfire randomly when it is warm and does it rarely. I have ridden with friends who have the same engine in their ranger and their trucks do not have this issue. I also have already had the transmission go out on it before (of which Ford would not honor the warranty because I was 31 days out of the warranty and 6,000 miles under it), and I don't want anything else to go wrong with it. If anyone knows of a fix for the lurching, please e-mail me at ClayXPS@hotmail.com (What happened to Built Ford Tough?).
