While the consumer was having the oil changed in his 1995 Ford Taurus the technician noticed that the epoxy coating covering the engine oil pan failed and came off. As a result the pan was severely rusted. While driving the speedmeter needle suddenly moved back and forth very fast

A/C: compressor clutch came apart exhaust: Due to heat and corrosion cat converter flange became so thin it was impossible to seal exhaust. Act converter replaced under 8/80 emmissions warranty. Paint: Cracks in paint developed above rear wheel (sheet metal flexing?) allowing moisture in causing corrosion and paint to lift. Front springs: Both front springs broke nearly puncturing the right front tire. No help from Ford. Seems they have a history of bad spring problems. 93 Taurus recall #98V-094, Windstar recall 01V-199, Contour recall 01V-255. They have extended the warranty on front springs for the 2000 Ford Focus for 10 years or 150,000 miles because of this problem. I didn't even know the springs were broken. Dealer brought it to my attention while in for A/C repair. Had the spring punctured the tire at highway speed the result could have been catastropic. I contacted Ford customer service and they offered no assistance other than to say if there was a future recall or satisfaction program I would be eligible for reimbursment. The cost of the repair is relativly inexpensive. It's the fact that they know there is a problem and are unwilling to address it that bothers me. Springs are not a maintance item. I have seen them lose tension and sag on older high mileage cars, but not brake. This is a safety issue.

The speedometer head has been replaced 4 times. Once under warranty, once on an extended warranty and 2 times at my expense. All four times used Ford replacement parts and the 1st 3 repairs used Ford mechanics. As the car is less than 5 yrs old and under 89000 miles, it seems extraordinary that it would require replacing the speedometer head every 12 months. This is not normal. The Ford dealer and the customer service dept of Ford Motor Company says, thanks for the information. We will replace it if you will pay all costs. I do not feel that this is notmal. The power steering pump is extremely loud. Ford dealer says yes, is loud, works find. They will eplace at my expense and it " will be quiet for a while" that is the nature of a Taurus...I do not feel this is accurate or acceptable

Speedometer head has failed again on this car. The original head failed and was replaced by Ford under warranty. The head that was installed has now failed in the same manner as the original, the original part failed at 29,000 miles and the replacement one has now failed at 27,000 miles. The speedometer needles wavers and floats all over the dial. Sometimes it just pegs at 85 mph when the actual speed is 30 mph or less. I have no idea how fast I am traveling. Ford wants five hundred plus dollars to repair this again. Calls to the local dealer have revealed that there are other Taurus owners who have replaced numerous speedometer heads and they commented that even if it is changed that they cannot guarantee that the replacement part won't fail again...it is unconscionable for Ford Motor Company to expect an owner to pay for this safety related repair when they are supplying defective parts!

This is 3rd.failure & I have tried unsuccessfully to get cooperation from the grand prairie Ford dealership that replaced this part two times after much bickering and refusal and denial of responsibility. It is very obvious that this is a universal problem and Ford should continue to replace this part without any hassells for the consumers.no safety defect listed within summary.

Contacted Mr. Jac nasser by certified mail and was susequently contacted by a Mr. Lance tang who stated that nothing could be done because the vehicle was outside the warranty period.there is a Ford service bulletin 97-12 which addresses this problem and attempts were made to rectify the problem. The dealer refuses to do any further repairs although the problem still exists which causes the speedometer to fluctuate wildly at speeds in the vicinity of 40 - 50 mph. This is a ridiculous claim as their contention is that it is outside the warranty period even though the problem re-occurs. This is not fixing a problem it is only a band aid to get the vehicle past the warranty mileage. This is a safety problem as covered by fmvss101. No safety defect mentione din summary.
