It was discovered in 2005 that both front coil springs were broken near the bottom on my 1995 Ford Taurus. A portion of the coil slipped past the bottom support of the strut leaving the sharp broken edge about 1/4 inch from the tire. It is especially worrisome on the passenger side where this sharp edge will probably puncture the tire if the coil spring slips further, past the bottom support of the strut. This would immediately stop the rotation of the tire. As an improvement to the situation, the portion of the broken coil spring near the tire was ground down giving it about 1/2 inch clearance from the tire. The coil springs have not yet been replaced, but replacement would fix the problem. The car had about 125,000 miles on it when the defect was discovered. The car was driven on asphalt and concrete roads in average condition. Coil springs should not fail if a car is driven using normal care. It was discovered in 2010 that the drivers side rear coil spring was broken near the top.

The car has had problems starting from the day it was delivered. The problems began with flaking paint, misaligned hood, door and bumper due to poor quality control. These problems were fixed by dealer w/O charge, as was the head gasket failure. Repairs for muffler failure, sway bar linkage failure, air conditioner failure and starter motor failure were not covered by the manufacturer under any sort of recall. The most recent problem with the air conditioner and starter motor cost over $1200 to fix. The problem with the ignition system was intermittent. Some times the car would start and other times the starter would not engage at all. One time the engine simply died while driving down the road. Starter motor would not engage until engine cooled down and had been sitting for an hour or two. Then starter motor would work. Mechanic at dealership said the starter motor probably had "dead" areas in starter motor that may be causing intermittent failure. Air conditioner failure attributed to failure of "motor mounts" that caused rupture of multiple hoses in air conditioning unit. I've never had a vehicle with so many equipment failures with this type of mileage.

I brought car in to crystal Ford for a very low noise periodic thumping as I did almost one year ago. One year ago they did some major brake work for the noise but now for this same noise they said I need new sway bar links. The strage thing is that after I picked up the car and began to drive home the noise was much much louder and different from the noise when I brought it in. It is not the periodic noise but a loud grinding sound. Has crystal Ford damaged the car to earn more from service? if so this is very dangerous for the customer. It is very strange that the noise is louder and different from what I had when I came in. Also what is strange is that last year when I brought the car in for the same noise they did a different repair job.
