The contact owns a 2000 Ford Taurus. While traveling at 35mph the vehicle started to shake and vibrate. It was difficult to control. He pulled the vehicle over and noticed that the rear passenger side was lower in the wheel base than the front side. The vehicle was driven to the nearest mechanic. The technician stated that the rear coil springs had failed and it should not be driven until it was repaired. He was then explained of a recall that was already issued on the vehicle, but it was on the front coil springs (manufacturer: Ford Motor Company mfr's report date: Jul 06, 2004 NHTSA campaign id number: 04V332000 PE04044 NHTSA action number: PE04044 component: Suspension:front:springs:coil springs ) he contacted the manufacture and stated that he was experiencing the problem explained in the recall but on the rear of the vehicle not the front. The manufacture stated that they would not be responsible for the repairs. He states that since the problem has been recalled on the front it should also include the rear. The vehicle is currently being repaired at a repair shop. The current and failure mileage was 88,000. Bl updated 10/5/09 updated 10/07/09.

In March of 2008, the contact received a Ford recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 04V332000 (suspension:front:springs:coil springs). The contact urged the manufacturer to replace the rear suspension as well; however, the manufacturer stated that NHTSA only ordered the front suspension to be recalled. The dealer will only replace the front suspension according to the recall. The current mileage was 58,200 and failure mileage was 58,000.

Without warning, one rear spring failed upon entering vehicle while parked. Although sound was heard, responsible failed item was unknown at time. Metallic noise constantly emitted upon leaving driveway. Immediately drove 10 miles to dealer without incident. Spring failure resulted in groove in rear tire requiring replacement. Both springs were in need of replacement per dealer. Currently, noise is emitted from trunk area, dealer wants to replace struts. No work done yet. Reported to Ford today as well.
