Taurus ES 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

The engine stalls and often won’t crank for several minutes. I took it to an electrical repair shop, but they couldn’t detect the problem because it fired right it. However, no matter where I am (I.e gas station or at home) after it sits for several minutes it stalls and the engine won’t turn when trying to crank.

Taurus SE 3.0L

My vehicle was working very well. The most recent Ford service visit, for a state inspection, was one day before this incident. Upon starting my drive this morning, the car was shifting hard, jerking as it proceeded through its gears. After five miles, the engine began "gurgling" is high gear and the engine power seemed reduced. Within five minute, the engine shut off completely, moving neither forward nor backward. After ten minutes, I restarted the vehicle and drove away. I returned to the Ford servicing dealer that day and the serviceman was not able to determine any issues from the vehicle's diagnostic computer. The serviceman suggested a potential issue with the ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. This vehicle is not covered by Ford's ongoing Customer Satisfaction Program for similar issues with other models. The vehicle continued on a 250 mile trip later that day without any issues. Am I to wait for this part to break entirely before I have it repaired? Are there any other potential causes for my breakdown which would not register in the vehicle's diagnostic codes?

In my Ford Taurus SEL 2011 we keep getting the error message throttle body error, but we have replaced it 3 times. The car still does the same thing which is idle high and has no compression and does not move when you mash the accelerator. Was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what to do to fix it....

The stalling of the engine is NOT a light matter and yet it doesn't seem that anything is getting done about. It first happened the first year of the car's life, at a stop sign. I had it towed and brought it to the dealer who couldn't find anything wrong with it but charged us for looking at it.

The second time was a couple years later but it was much scarier. We were on a highway. But fortunately we were on the outside lane so could pull off. I simply put it in park and it started right up again.

The third time was today, again at a light. Again I put it in park and it stated right up. I am going to take it in again, but I am afraid we will go through the same scenario or pay much higher of a price with not much to offer.

I JUST WANT IT FIXED OR ABLE TO RETURN MY CAR! Seriously is the FORD CO going to wait until there is a death? Each time I take it out I feel that I am taking a risk, and with my child in the car. But it is my ONLY means of transportation. Please someone notify me if there is ANYTHING I can do!!! I will be returning here.

My 2011 Ford Taurus has shut off 3 times now since 2012 while I was driving it. I have a push button ignition and remote keys.

It randomly does not detect the keys as well and then it takes some pushing all the buttons on the remote to recognize I have the key there. Yesterday the dealership replaced the batteries in the remote and recommended I replace them annually.

They could not offer me an explanation as to why it was not recognizing the keys when I am driving down a road and it shuts off. This is an accident thing waiting to happen. They did a diagnostic on it as well and searched the home office for any defect or recall and have none. Is this a reported incident and is there anything on it? I am reporting this because if it causes an accident I want it on the record as well. I went to the Ford Dealership and they said they would notify me if anything comes in about it. Why am I finding this here and they are not?

Taurus SEL 3.2L

This is the fifth time while driving 65 miles an hour with my foot on the gas pedal, the car just shut off. All the dash lights came on and no response from the gas pedal was my first clue that the car shut off. Since you must put the car in park with your foot on the brake to restart the push button ignition, I had to coast to a shoulder of the highway, (thank God there was one), with minimal brakes and no power steering, stop completely, shift into park and restart the engine. It started again the first time and it drove fine. The car is presently at the Ford Dealership where I purchased the car, no one else services the car because of the warranty, and I'd just had oil changed 2 weeks ago. Previously I was told by the Service Department that nothing shows up on the computer so there's no way of their knowing what to do or what the problem is.

I happened to see the General Motors recall where the ignition switch was recalled because people were getting killed when their cars shut off on high speed highways. This is what's happening to my car but they say it's not the same problem.

I was almost killed by an insect.....or so said the service manager at the dealership!!!!! I had just brought my car in hours before for a routine oil and filter change. Then, pulling out into traffic to accelerate, the engine began to sputter and shut off completely as a big semi rig bore down on my tail. I somehow managed to get off the roadway before being rear-ended and catapulted into oncoming traffic. I called the dealership, hysterical as you might imagine and they did send a wrecker to bring it back into the service shop. The problem? "An insect got thru the filter screen over the air intake valve and latched onto the filament that reads and adjusts the air/gas mix. The system couldn't read anything due to the insect on the filament and the engine shuts down". Can you believe that???? The manager at my dealership said this is "only" the second time he's encountered this problem. I'm lucky I wasn't hit and seriously injured. This is a major engineering flaw and huge safety issue that needs to be fixed before someone is killed.

Taurus ES 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,029 miles

Brand new Ford Taurus with approx 5,000 miles on it stalls without warning. If coasting down a long hill, idle is not set high enough to keep engine running. Power is off, and dash says, "Shift to Park," because it's stalled. If lucky, you can make it to the side of the road to re-start; if not, you are trying to re-start in traffic lane. VERY DANGEROUS!!!!! This has occurred while backing up, while driving 65 mph on highway, and after a stop while trying to accelerate. Five times, so far, it has just stalled out.

Ford replaced defective throttle body installed during 3-month manufacturing period per TSB#10-21-6 for a fluctuating idle speed, but the codes P2111 and P2112 failed to show on my vehicle. Cruise control just malfunctioned recently, which may be connected to problem. There is one more TSB # on the National Highway Traffic Safety site safercars.gov or go to NHTSA.gov for more information.

Cafe standards are making auto makers set these idle speeds too low, I think. Environmentalists may be the death of us all. I hope they start to take the safety of humans into consideration, as a part of the environment soon!!!! Complain to your congressman about CAFE standards for autos please. They are setting them even lower in the future, and they don't stay running as it is now. Ford has been great about helping to find solutions and changed out a defective throttle body, even though my car threw no codes. I had at least 3 near accidents after stalling, and one man shook his fist at me for blocking the road.

Update from Jan 6, 2012: Since I posted that, I have had a lot of trouble with my 2011 Ford Taurus. A salesman at the dealership tells me they have this fixed for 2012. I know I have a Lemon Law Complaint, but I don't want to hurt Ford. After all, they bailed themselves out, instead of making us taxpayers do it.

They have since changed out the part that regulates how the fuel pump feeds the gas. I was able to get another hit on the trouble computer, where the fuel pump was just shutting off. Ford wouldn't let the dealership just change it out though. First they changed out the less expensive regulator for the fuel pump. When it didn't help, they completely reprogrammed my main computer in the car. That upload took over an hour. This is after changing out the electronic throttle body didn't fix my stalling problem.

It has also had a couple of episodes, where the car seems to have a mind of its own. While slowing down for a light, it suddenly surged forward. My husband was driving, and he said, "What was that?" It's a good thing he was nearly stopped, because a car was in front of us. It also starts braking, if you are going down a hill. I was told it's to maintain the same speed. Ford better start letting us feed the gas as we see fit. I don't want a machine driving me or mine! When I reported these things, I was told there is another TSB out, and they think my car has a transmission problem now. OK.

I'm nearing the end of my rope with these problems. It's too bad, because I absolutely love this car. It handles well on snow, and it feels like you are riding in your living room when you are on a long trip. Ford used to own Jag, and I think they have that ride just right. I'm hoping they can fix this. I also get a lot of complements on the car, which is a Red Candy color. It's really a shame that it won't run right.
