My wife was on her way to work in rush hour, when the power of this car shut down to sputter, in the middle of an intersection. She coasted to the side lane after her turn, and the car had no acceleration, only 3 mph. She stopped at the nearest pull over and shut it off. Then, started it back up where it fired up great. She ran it almost to work and it did the same thing while driving in the right lane. She put her flasher on and coasted, till she had to stop as it quit running. After a minute she started it back up and got to work, as it ran fine for the next 3 miles. We took it to our mechanic, (Allied Automotive) and he found no code, and it ran fine for him, of course. This has happened to me (her husband) today, 3 days later, in the middle of an intersection as well. It almost caused an accident. So, off to the Ford dealership Monday. Will follow up.

Update from Sep 29, 2017: After all my research, I was pretty sure it was the throttle body. I drove it for awhile and it ran fine for 4 days. Then, 1/2 mile from my house it lost power. I drove it 4mph to my mechanic and kept it running until they ran code. Sure enough, throttle body. Fixed and fine now. Throttle body is pretty simple to replace if u mind to. But they still have to reset the computer after replacing.

On Tuesday July 4th 2013 the car was running fine, suddenly I lost the engine and coasted to clear spot to get out of traffic There was some noise with the stoppage. I called the dealer, they suggested I come in. On arrival the person at check in suggested we drive around the block to check out the noise. It had stopped shortly after restarting the engine. We drove around 5 or 7 blocks with no noise or engine stoppage, it was suggested that I bring it back if it occurred again.. No one suggested looking at the engine or transmission.. Over the next year it happened 3 to 4 times. When it happened I would pull of road and wait few minutes and restart.

Jump forward to September 2016. I had a doctors appointment downtown Portland, Oregon mid morning. I plan to use highway 26 the main route into Portland for me. Its very heavy traffic at that time. . I waited for the green light to enter the traffic stream (very heavy traffic) I brought my speed up to near 60 mph and entered the lane when the engine stopped I had cars to the front, right, and left. The car to my rear came very close to rear ending me. The driver of that car had his horn blaring and his middle finger extended. It had not occurred to me the high risk I was taking. Based on my experience with my Ford dealer I sent a registered letter 09/27/2014 explaining what had happened. I also enclosed the letter from July 4th 2013. As of 10/03/2016 I have received no reply. At the time of the current engine stoppage I had 13,607 miles on the car. I'm the care giver for my wife who is disabled . The car is only used for medical and grocery shopping. I am 85 and still in good shape as far as mental and physical condition is concerned . It's necessary i use this car, however. I now go grocery shopping very early and try to schedule doctors appointments on roads less traveled I took the car to a small shop that has a good reputation near my house. I asked if the could see if the computer or what ever you call it would show us what the problem was. He hooked up some devise to a box under the steering wheel. I thought for sure this would be the solution, However it showed no problem at all had occurred. I have no confidence that when I do hear to bring the car in it ill be a drive around the block again . My reason for so assuming this is based on the past interaction with the Ford Dealership.

My wife mentioned earlier in the week that her car had lost power while she was driving and that she had pulled off the road, shut off the car, waited a couple of minutes, then restarted and drove home with no problem. She said the ’little wrench’ appeared on the car’s screen (service engine light, I guess). She said it hadn’t happened again in a day or two.

I was going to take it to the dealer for a check after the Fourth, but coming back from dinner last night the same thing happened while I was driving. While driving on the highway at about 60 MPH, and without warning the power to the drive wheels just stopped. I was able to coast to a place I could get out of traffic and out of the way. Then I shut the engine down, waited about 30 seconds, restarted and drove home with no issue.

In some traffic situations (a long bridge or elevated freeway for example) this could be very serious. It is certainly not safe enough for my wife to be driving on the trip she has planned for next week. I can’t get this into the shop for a couple of days and hope the dealership can quickly pick up the trouble code on his diagnostic computer and fix the problem.

Update from Jul 11, 2016: The problem popped up on July 2 so we couldn't get the car into the dealership until Tuesday, July 5. The dealer is Legacy Ford in Rosenburg, TX. They got it into the shop for diagnostics right away, and confirmed it was a throttle body issue. They did not have one in stock but ordered one to be shipped expedited. They said this is not a widely prevalent problem so they don't stock the part. The car was repaired and back to us by noon July 6. The parts and labor was covered under my extended warranty with just a $100 deductible. Wonderful service from this dealer. If you're in this part of Texas and want a Ford, see these guys.

I have a code reader that gives me P2111 Throttle Actuator stuck open. I took it to Mullinax Ford in New Smyrna Beach.Fl. The fist time it did this was with my wife and she had just got out of the drive. I went out and restarted it and ever thing was fine for two months. Now it has lost power three times in two days. You can sit a minute and it will start right up.

I took it to the Ford dealer here and they gave me we up dated the computer and found no codes . I am guessing they took them out when it was up dated. But they are saying they will not do any thing with out the code. Any way it is still at Ford as I am not driving it and sure am not letting my wife drive it like that. Pull out in traffic and it could get you killed. I am going out of town for a few days and will follow up on it when I get back middle of the week. They first told me there was nothing wrong but look like what code reader and I handed them the print out and went back with by code reader and showed it to them. The code reader prints out the Vin and mileage so it is verified. This should be recalled on all Fords as if you buy a new throttle body it is not the same part number so I understand. That tells me Ford knows they have a problem.

Update from Aug 26, 2015: Well the Ford dealer did replace the Throttle Body. The service girl said the manger I guess didn't believe me or the read out since his High Tech. Ford computer didn't pick up on it. Anyway, he took it out his self and it stopped with him about the time he got out of the dealership. Hard to argue with and old man when you sitting on the side of the road telling him he don't know what he is talking about.

Update from Aug 27, 2015: Ford dealer did finally get the code to come up and repaired. It was Code P2111 and they did replace the throttle body.

Car seems to be OK.

THE WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING UP NORTH TO NEW YORK FROM VIRGINIA FOR CHRISTMAS. WHEN GOT HALF WAY THROUGH PENNSYLVANIA AND STARTED TO GO UP SOME LONG HILLS, OUR CAR STARTED TO SHUTTER TO THE POINT WHERE WE HAD TO STOP ON THE HILL IN A TRAFFIC LANE AND SHUT OFF THE CAR. IT HAD HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND BY SHUTTING IT OFF AND RESTARTING IT WOULD CLEAR UP. THIS TIME IT DID NOT DO IT THE FIRST TIME AND IT TOOK US 2 TIMES FOR THE SHUTTERING TO STOP.

WE WERE NOT HAPPY BEING PUT INTO THAT POSITION WITH A NEW CAR.
