problem #1

Oct 012015

Transit Connect XLT 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,910 miles

We bought two new Transit Connects in October, 2012. Both have experienced the same problem, but this week was the first time it ever caused an accident.

When you stop and put the transmission lever into "Park" position, many times it will roll forward or backward freely and we have to engage the emergency brake. This week the employees forgot to do this, and the vehicle rolled forward and hit another car, causing about $1,000 in body damage. The vehicle was not running and was unattended at the time, but was parked on a very slight incline. There was a gusty wind, so that is probably what started it rolling.

We have reported this problem to the local dealer more than once, and one time they actually worked on the transmission, but the problem still persists.

I feel our two vehicles cannot be the only ones experiencing this problem. I am surprised Ford hasn't issued a recall on this model to correct the situation. While it is a pain in the butt, it can also be dangerous if the vehicle is parked on a slope and builds up any speed, or drifts on to a busy highway.
