Windstar SEL 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO AND MY MECHANIC HOOKED THE CAR TO THE COMPUTER. THE CODE HAD TO DO WITH REPLACING THE INTAKE GASKETS, WHICH THEN WAS DONE BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. MY MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH WINDSTARS AND HE HAS SEEN IT A BUNCH OF TIMES (I.E. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT GO OUT). I HAVE SINCE HEARD THIS FROM OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS. WHEN I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP REPAIR DEPARTMENT THEY TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW OF ANY SUCH CHRONIC PROBLEM AND THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE GASKETS (AGAIN) BUT GAVE ME NO GUARANTEE THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO OUT.

I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE, ULTIMATELY, IT PRESENTS A VERY BIG PROBLEM WHEN YOU NEED TO HAVE THE YEARLY STATE INSPECTION. THE CAR ACTUALLY RUNS FINE. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A CLASS ACTION SUIT PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Windstar LX 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 145,000 miles

The check engine light comes on. I have had codes checked and cleared and the check engine light comes on the next day. The mechanic says the seals and gaskets need replacing on the intake. It will only get worse and start to run rough and get hard on fuel mileage.

Also, the brake lights on the dash come on. I had those codes read and 9 different codes come up.

Some times I think these vehicles have too much computer ---- on them. Go back to making them simple and they will get better fuel mileage and be cheaper to operate and repair.

This is the second time in one year I have had to have the carbon build up cleaned out of the engine. I'm sick of this vehicle. This is the only problem I've had since buying it new but it's a pain to have a repeat problem so soon. It will go on the market after the new year for sure!!
