  • 234,000 miles
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake pedal went to the floor when depressed. The vehicle continued to accelerate over a curb and crashed into a tree. There was no personal injury. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the scv switch was replaced. The manufacturer was notified and they informed that there was not a recall related to the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 234,000.

Braking distance suddenly increased. My ABS light and trac off lights on. During driving my traction control will come on as I brake on dry pavement, I almost wasnt able to stop. The mechanic said my cruise control was leaking ( that has previously been fixed) but that want causing it. I will have to buy a ABS module. It is parked right now due to scared to drive with my kids in the car and I'm a single mom and can't afford the module.

I'm not sure if this is the brakes or the lighting on the dashboard, but the ABS and brake light on the dashboard light up. I have had it checked, and the mechanics keep saying the brakes are fine, but the lights often stay on, especially in warmer weather (and hardly at all in colder weather). This has been going on since we got the car, from July 2012 to the present.

The ABS and red brake light as well as the traction control light, and now my battery light come on and off intermittently. The ABS system kicks in at unnecessary times making it difficult to stop. The speedometer is now also bouncing up and down intermittently, but no other gauges seem to be affected.

My ABS light & traction light are now on. Also, needles jump on dash {odometer, speedometer, fuel & heat level} and cruise control does not work any longer {this has been happening since receiving my van back from the Ford garage after 7 months from the axle recall repair over a year ago}. tried to bleed my brakes after replacing pads and caliper but cannot bleed front left or rear right. Was told by a Ford mechanic that this may be a problem in the ABS module. As pertaining to a Ford recall in October, 2009, all of the above problems may be connected to this recall. My van was inspected and nothing was done to it because, at the time, because it was deemed safe. I have since replaced the electrical tape on the wiring harness that they were suppose to be inspecting because it was falling off due to brake fluid on it (reason for said recall}. I plan on calling the garage in the am to have them reinspect my van for this recall because I cannot afford to replace any more parts in it. I have put a lot into it just since getting it back after the axle recall because it deteriorated sitting in their driveway for the winter due to salt. I hope nobody else is going through this. I love my van and have owned it for 11 years but it is getting too expensive for a one-income-household to repair due to bad parts or service. Please have Ford work to fix these problems so I can afford to keep my van. Thank you!

***********updated information from ODI number:10554248************ ABS and brake warning lights on the dashboard came on and when codes were retrieved, it was C1185, ABS power relay output circuit fault. My wife just informed me that when the lights came on, she could feel the brakes be applied just a little on its own (without pressing the brake pedal) for about a second or two. Had the codes cleared and the same code came back on a short time later with same reaction from brakes.

ABS and brake lights come on intermittently. I applied the brakes heavily and all 4 wheels locked up. The vehicle was uncontrollable while braking. The speedometer is erratic. The battery is dead sometimes after sitting overnight. The hazard lights come on by them selves. The door locks do not work properly. The tire indicator lights come on for no reason.

Left Ford dealership with my just purchased 02 Ford Windstar. Within 10 miles of dealership ABS and brake light came on. Returned to dealership on Monday. Tried to charge me diagnostic fee for issue.... wouldn't fix problem unless I paid for parts and labor. I complained numerous times. Said wasn't their problem and not a recall. Still having issue. Now vehicle has ABS light on (without brake light). Check engine light came on. Barely made it home.... going back to dealership tomorrow. I will never again purchase a Ford. Especially not from dealership that won't correct problem even though I paid $2K extra for extended warranty.

The ABS, track off, brake light indicators, and check traction control intermittently illuminate. They remain on until the key is turned off, and then reset. The frequency is intermittent and not measurable. Initial checks have no results as the lights are out when checked by a repair shop.

After driving some distance, usually 5-20 miles or after the van has warmed up, the ABS and brake dashboard lights and come on. The speed at which this occurs is random. The ABS is indeed incapacitated, thus suddenly increasing the braking distance. The trip computer also beeps, and tells me that the traction control has been disabled.

ABS and brake lights come on periodically. Can't be reset and have asked mechanic what issue is. Was told it's an ABS module that costs at least $700 to replace. Have looked online for help on this and it looks like several other people are having this same issue. Is Ford looking to put a recall out for this? living in the midwest weather, having my ABS working would be a nice addition when driving in the four seasons of weather.

During normal driving both the brake warning light and the anti-lock brake warning light will come on and stay on. They don't always come on but if they do they don't shut off till you turn the ignition off. We never know if it's a real brake problem or just an electrical glitch.
