ABS light came on during normal driving conditions for no apparent reason. Car is very well maintained with good brakes and has relatively low miles.

Windstar 6-cyl

  • 108,000 miles
ABS and brake lights came on and stayed on until restarting engine. Problem could not be detected by several mechanics. The brakes are working ok, but the lights come on once in while independent of speed or hitting the brakes.

***********updated information from ODI number:10554248************ ABS and brake warning lights on the dashboard came on and when codes were retrieved, it was C1185, ABS power relay output circuit fault. My wife just informed me that when the lights came on, she could feel the brakes be applied just a little on its own (without pressing the brake pedal) for about a second or two. Had the codes cleared and the same code came back on a short time later with same reaction from brakes.

Windstar 6-cyl

  • 130,000 miles
ABS and brake lights come on intermittently. I applied the brakes heavily and all 4 wheels locked up. The vehicle was uncontrollable while braking. The speedometer is erratic. The battery is dead sometimes after sitting overnight. The hazard lights come on by them selves. The door locks do not work properly. The tire indicator lights come on for no reason.

  • 52,000 miles
Left Ford dealership with my just purchased 02 Ford Windstar. Within 10 miles of dealership ABS and brake light came on. Returned to dealership on Monday. Tried to charge me diagnostic fee for issue.... wouldn't fix problem unless I paid for parts and labor. I complained numerous times. Said wasn't their problem and not a recall. Still having issue. Now vehicle has ABS light on (without brake light). Check engine light came on. Barely made it home.... going back to dealership tomorrow. I will never again purchase a Ford. Especially not from dealership that won't correct problem even though I paid $2K extra for extended warranty.

The ABS, track off, brake light indicators, and check traction control intermittently illuminate. They remain on until the key is turned off, and then reset. The frequency is intermittent and not measurable. Initial checks have no results as the lights are out when checked by a repair shop.

Windstar 6-cyl

  • 180,000 miles
ABS and brake lights have been turning on intermittently, when on ABS is not functional. Today on minimally slippery roads lights came on, ABS needed at an icy stop sign, did not come on. Rear ended the car in front of me. No damage to other car, front bumper on my car now cracked. ABS still not working.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the rear or the vehicle collapsed. The contact also mentioned that the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who informed the contact that the rear axle had fractured due to rust and the ABS master relay sensor had malfunctioned. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 140,000. The VIN was unavailable.

  • 80,000 miles
After driving some distance, usually 5-20 miles or after the van has warmed up, the ABS and brake dashboard lights and come on. The speed at which this occurs is random. The ABS is indeed incapacitated, thus suddenly increasing the braking distance. The trip computer also beeps, and tells me that the traction control has been disabled.

ABS and brake lights come on periodically. Can't be reset and have asked mechanic what issue is. Was told it's an ABS module that costs at least $700 to replace. Have looked online for help on this and it looks like several other people are having this same issue. Is Ford looking to put a recall out for this? living in the midwest weather, having my ABS working would be a nice addition when driving in the four seasons of weather.

During normal driving both the brake warning light and the anti-lock brake warning light will come on and stay on. They don't always come on but if they do they don't shut off till you turn the ignition off. We never know if it's a real brake problem or just an electrical glitch.

ABS light continuously coming on and going off, tire sensor lights coming on and going off when tire pressure is ok. Took to mechanic in 9/2013 and diagnosis was that ABS module needed replacement.

Brake lights were coming on so we took it to have it looked at and the said it was a bad wire for the anti lock brake system and said there has been a problem with these in other Windstar.

I have an ABS code C1185 which may be related to a faulty solder joint in the ABS module. This renders the ABS system ineffective.

Windstar 6-cyl

  • 99,542 miles
While operating this van the ABS/brake light will illuminate on the dash. This is an intermittent problem that sometimes comes on as soon as the vehicle is started, other times it will come on after driving for a mile or two. This causes the ABS brake system to stop working and is a safety issue. I have had the codes checked many times and cleared with no other problems showing just to have it re-occur at a later time. It seems to be related to outside temperature. If it is really hot outside ( 90+ ) the light will come on quickly, when its cooler it may come on later in the day, or after driving further.

problem #109

Sep 022013

  • 50,000 miles
ABS warning light comes on & off intermittently. Can not re-set it, but the brakes seem to work good otherwise. Is this a problem or has Ford had a recall on this issue? I hear it is common.

problem #108

Windstar 6-cyl

  • 102,702 miles
The ABS and the brake light both lit up and remained on. When cooler temperatures prevailed, the lights would then go out. This again has occurred most recently on 08-30-2013. The following codes affected were C1185, C1198, C1194, C1254, C1246, C1250, C1214, C1210.

problem #107

  • 203,000 miles
Red (brake) and yellow (ABS) lights on intermittently. Problem is worse in hot weather. See www.fordwindstarrecall.info/#brokensoldier seems like an ABS (safety!) issue would be worth a recall.
