My husband recently asked if I had encountered any problems using the cruise control in this vehicle. Since I seldom drive any distance with that vehicle, I never noticed anything. But he had traveled onto the interstate, and when attempting to set the cruise, noticed it didn't work. Yesterday, I had to follow him somewhere, and I noticed the brake lights weren't coming on. We tested all the other things (tail lights, back up lights, turn signals), and everything was working properly. Today I was looking to see how to replace the brake light switch, and also noticed there were instructions on how to replace the cruise control switch and fuses, too (as they all seem to be related.) Then I found that some models of the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon were affected by a recall for this same issue. When I looked it up just now, this model (2009 GMC Canyon) is not under the recall (but it has the same issue).

My husband's brake lights went out on his 2009 GMC Canyon. He took it to a dealer to have it fixed. We read online that there was a recall for his brake light switch. They checked his VIN and said there wasn't anything. It isn't the bulbs, fuse, etc. They "fixed" it and said "it'll either work for the next 5 min or it won't work at all." And handed him the keys. He drove it and sure enough, the lights went out, again. He took it back and the same thing happened. "it may or may not work, yada yada..." why would they hand them the keys plus allow it pass for inspection if it does not work? as far as I am concerned, the work has not been completed. My husband recently got out of the usmc and has yet to find work. We cannot afford to keep taking it back or yet pay for a ticket!!!!
