Envoy

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,386 miles
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the speedometer and fuel gauge became inoperable. The dealer estimated that the repair would cost $500 at the contact's expense. On a separate occasion, the vehicle would only shift into first and second gear and would not accelerate over 35 mph. In addition, the rpms would rev higher than normal and the vehicle would hesitate when attempting to pick up speed. The contact heard a loud humming noise under the hood when attempting to accelerate. The dealer stated that a new transmission was needed. The repair would cost over $2,000. An independent mechanic stated that he could rebuild the transmission. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 44,386 updated 07/28/09 the transmission failed at 58,000 miles. Updated 07/31/09.

Envoy

  • 57,000 miles
Bought "certified used" Envoy in October of 07. Transmission completely stopped at 57K miles 3 months after purchase. Check engine light comes on and off every couple days(have video, but sandy sansing of pensacola Florida says there nothing wrong) vehicle jerks at stops and starts. After 3 trips to dealership w/ "nothing wrong" they finally decided that a O2 sensor was bad at 71K. Envoy had been back in the shop at a cost of $80 bucks twice since then because of the "check engine" light and the brakes are failing, the "ABS brake" light doesn't come on so they say it cant be the brakes. When trying to stop the brakes stop working and a second later they will catch and begin to stop vehicle, as if the brake system is obstructed and skips a few times. The check engine light flashes for those few seconds but doesn't stay on long and they say it isn't throwing any codes. Problem doesn't happen everyday so the dealership has said its a unfounded problem. The thermostats assembly with other parts have been replaced. Have all receipts and dates that I've taken this pos into the dealership. I will never buy another GMC vehicle. I have a 10 year old pickup truck also and has only been in the shop once. There's no excuse that we are driving these (expensive) unsafe vehicles!!

We complained about the transmission slipping at 33,000 miles and take it back to the dealer they say the checked the problem and replaced an electrical component, at 50K while my wife was driving on the highway at 65mph lost the power train. After much discussion and three weeks the dealer finally agreed to fix for 500 vice 3300 which they wanted. A week later the transmission is slipping again and now we lost power steering and the gas needle stopped working. I have left messages for the service manager at wiesner GMC in conroe tx and they have not returned any calls. I am now taking the vehicle to a different mechanic to tried to get it repaired.

I was driving in town and my speedometer stopped working at 0. the oil gauge is not working, pegged out at the max and my engine light is now constantly on. These events, particularly the speedometer not working, is a major safety hazard. Not driving at controllable speeds can lead to an accident and death. The parts and labor to fix this problem is $550. While researching this problem on the internet, I've found out that this is a common problem with GMC's in this year. There should be a recall with the cluster unit on 2004 GMC Envoy. GMC should try to prevent deaths that their products may create.

Envoy 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,000 miles
When contact comes to a yield sign transmission jerks before going into gear. Later he was told this was a brake problem. When approaching a hill/downhill and applying brakes they lock and car slides. Dozens of times check brake, service 4 wheel drive lights have come on. Contact has taken vehicle to dealer over 12 times since it has been purchased. Due service lights, brakes and transmission. Consistently told by dealer that nothing is wrong. But dealer aknowledges check brake lights have come on. Dealer states that if computer diagnostic does not produce an error code, then there is nothing they can do.

1. engine will shut off when making a hard turn: After stopped at a stop sign, I was trying to make a hard turn (steering wheel reached the maximum turning angle) when the engine suddenly shut off itself. It happened three times either tuning left or right (today), but always after stopping and with a hard turning angle. It is such a huge safety defect with all the cars infront and behind you. No repair action has been taken. The problem may be reproduced. 2. turning signals not working after emergency lights used: It happened two times. Turning signal lights (left or right) will not work correctly after the emergency lights were in use; instead both left and right turning lights will flash at the same time. It can be reproduced. No repair action taken yet. 3. difficult turning at a hard turn with 4-wheel-drive is on: It is almost impossible to make a hard turn when the 4-whell-drive is on. It happens every time. No repair action taken yet.
