Dash gauges/ first the oil level gauge died, then the speedometer started acting up, it will say your going 200 mph, when your standing still...then the speakers and the radio started acting up, work, don't work...really concerned about speedometer, and if other gauges will follow suit.

2004 gmac Envoy - the speedometer is erratic. When you drive down road, it is all over the place. I went to dealership and they said no recall. I would have to buy a new cluster - $600 plus labor! interesting there are 4 other people I know that own GM SUVS and they are all doing it as well. I have since replaced the cluster and that has fixed but with all the people in my little circle. There is a overall problem with the GM/gmac cars. This could be dangerous and expensive for the consumer.

In the spring of 2009, we began noticing problems with the instrument panel and electrical system of our 2004 GMC Envoy XL. The speedometer was not consistent. The gas gauge became unreliable. We have also seen problems with the oil gauge and most recently the reading for the exterior temperature. Currently, it has been almost a year since the start of the problems, and the gas gauge, speedometer, and the exterior temperature readout are never correct. We contacted the GMC dealer where we bought the vehicle and were told that several complaints had been logged regarding similar issues with these vehicles and that the problem was the instrument panel cluster. I believe the cost to have it fixed was going to be $400-$500. If so many of these vehicles are having the same problem, why will GMC not issue a recall and have this problem fixed?

For the last few months the check engine light would come on and go off after a few days; we took it to our mechanic who ran a diagnostic and they said there is nothing wrong, probably a faulty sensor, not harmful. So, last night while driving, using cruise control and on the interstate my speedometer stopped working. When I came to a stop at an exit I noticed the speedometer was reading 42 mph but I was at a complete stop. I do not even want to imagine what might have happened should it have begun to work while I was doing 60+mph while on cruise control!!! this is extremely dangerous! so I came home and did some research to see if this is a known issue with my 2004 GMC Envoy XL and low and behold this is an issue to all GMC SUVS from 2002-2005! I am disgusted at the information I found that states GMC isn't willing to take ownership of the recall/repair when this is already a known issue!! please act on this with due diligence and recall this faulty instrument panel before someone gets hurt or worse!!!!

Bought my 2004 GMC Envoy in May 2009. After about a month and a half of driving it, all dash gauges started working intermittently, and the warning bell would go off, and all warning lights started flashing. Shortly after that began, all gauges quit working all together every other time I would start the vehicle. Took the vehicle in for repair, they replaced ignition switch and half way home from the repair shop, it all started over again. Been doing it ever since.

04/12/2009 the speedometer jumped to 110 mph while only driving about 25 mph. Turn the car off and it stayed at 110. Turn on again and while drive about forty mph it shows 150 ish. Call the dealer and replacement is over $400 to replace the part (assuming that this is the fix). Extensive research and the amount of complaints on this site, this is a rather large problem that has effected a large quantity of GM owners. This seems to be a defective part that happens generally right after the warranty runs out. Go figure.

Our vehicle has a speedometer that intermittently reads many mph over the actual speed. The internet forum that referred us here has many people with the same trouble. The dealer does not have our make of vehicle on the letter that covers this issues on many other makes.

Envoy XL

After getting an oil change the technician went to pull the car out of the bay and the car just died. It appeared first that the battery may have died. There was no power at all. Next after letting the vehicle sit for a minute we attempted to turn on the ignition and all the gauges went crazy, registering as if I was driving. Then as in the another complaint, upon attempting to start the vehicle, all the dash board warning lights and turn signal indicators came on and stayed on. All the gauges started acting erratically and all the needle indicators started jumping at random. The next time I tried to start the vehicle again the vehicle did the very same thing as mentioned above (gauges acting erratically, etc.). I attempted to start the vehicle several more time each time with the same result. Prior to this experience the oil gauge had stop registering and had malfunction about one year earlier. After my favorite mechanic came to rescue me hot wired the fuse box to allow for me to drive the vehicle home. He said that the fuses were not getting the 12 volts need to operate the vehicle. I'm now waiting on the diagnosis.
