Jimmy 6-cyl

  • 94,445 miles
At 94,445 miles: Noticed a small leakage on garage floor, forward of left rear tire--within 10 miles noted significantly reduced braking capability. Taken to repair facility the following morning...the steel brake lines on driver's side were found corroded and cracked which caused brake fluid loss- ironically as the service technician was pulling the vehicle into the service bay--there was a total loss of rear brakes-- only then--in the bay, did the "brake" service warning light came on! (good reason to call them ' idiot' lights).

Jimmy 4WD 6-cyl

  • 160,000 miles
Upon inspection of 2000 GMC Jimmy 4dr / 4WD brake line drivers side over frame next to fuel tank held down by a clip leading to rear brakes ruptured due to corrosion around the clip area that holds the line to frame causing total loss rear brakes and proper braking when brake pedal went to the floor while returning home to park vehicle at our residence, .. luckily at time of incident we were on our own rural property in driveway which is (approximately 2/10 mile long) and not the busy main highway which was traveled at 55 mph. The terrain was used in our driveway to bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Thankfully no injury's to occupants (including a 3 year old child) or damage to vehicle occurred with this incident.

Noticed dampness around the left rear brake hose to rear brake caliper. We took our vehicle to be inspected and were told that there are "2" copper washers that are causing the leak and requires replacement. We were also told that this is quite a common problem. If this was not repaired and the leak continued, it would have resulted in the loss brake performance, loss of vehicle control and injury to the occupants.

I bought a 2000 Jimmy from oak motors. I have had it for 5 months. In the last 5 months I have replaced the alternator, 3 pulleys, serpentine belt. The brakes are going out, power steering is going out, engine is tapping. I took it back after having it for 10 days because the service engine light came on. They wanted $175 to look at it. I was told at the time of purchase that I had to purchase the warranty for $995, I thought this was to cover any problem with the vehicle. It doesn't. they now want $540 to fix it. Please help.

I have a 2000 slt Jimmy which has been a pain. I've had lower ball joints replaced, upper ball joints replaced, major problems with the brakes, U joints replaced, hub and wheel bearing problems, altenator failure, A/C blower motor replaced, broken blend door which caused encoder motor and module failure, rear wiper moter replaced, back window lock replaced. Too many things have gone wrong with this vehicle. GMC should consider some sort of recall because I've read many complaints regarding some of the same issues.
