Defect discovered this date, but known by manufacturer. Exhaust manifold bolts are breaking, leading to exhaust gases leaking under hood which will lead to emission problems. Learned that this is a common problem with GM 8 cylinder trucks made from 1999 to 2007, which involves about 12 million vehicles. The repair cost is $800 to $1000, and GM has not recalled or offered to extend warranty to cover the repair. This is clearly a manufacturing defect and GM should be held accountable.
