the brake lines on this truck are junk there should be no way that GMC should be able to get away with installing brake lines of this cheep quality on such a vital component on this truck I wonder how many accidents this has caused? and if any contributed to any deaths GMC should be held responsible for getting these vehicles recalled before any deaths occur or major accidents if there not any already

On 8/4/10, while moving in reverse in my driveway, my 2001 GMC Sierra's brake line ruptured causing complete brake failure due to corrosion on the steel brake line. The vehicle is 10 years old and only has 29,000 miles on it. It was rarely driven in the winter when there was snow, ice or salt present. As of 9/5/10 the truck remains parked and the lines have not been replaced. When the failure happened, I conducted research to find this failure to be a pending investigation for a possible recall. I only want compensation from GMC for the cost of the repair caused by this defect. But I'm pretty sure a recall on 6.3 million vehicles will not be issued with GM's IPO set to be released. So, I, the GM consumer, will have to wait.

The recent cold snap here must have made brake lines more brittle. I work with 2 people who had their brake lines fail this same week - that is 3 trucks (2 Chevy 1 GMC) early 2000's to fail that I personally know of. I have seen on the 'net' a ground swell of complaints about brake line problems. My mechanic used to work for GM and said he was able to get a "brake line kit" from GM at a good rate - so they must be aware of the problem.
