At 35K the drivers side front door actuator failed and was replaced under warranty. At 40K the passenger side door actuator failed. I was told this is a common problem with this vehicle due to defective parts used by GMC. With no ability to open or close the passenger door from the drivers control, a potential safety issue exists. E.g. unable to prevent an intruder from entering the car at a stop light, or allow a scared child to exit after an accident.

The three passenger doors failed to unlock simultaneously I understand a tsb has been sent to dealers. This seems to be a safety issue, and should require a recall.

Rear passenger door will only lock/unlock manually from the inside. I have been told the problem is a failed door lock actuator. It will not lock/unlock with power lock button or key fob and there is no keyhole except on drivers door. This is my second GMC vehicle that has had the same problem and after searching the internet this seems to be a fairly common problem and I am trying to figure out why it has not been recalled or GMC has not been forced to fix the problem. Wouldn't you consider a door that does not lock/unlock the intended way a safety issue?

Then within months after the drivers door lock failing both rear door locks quit working within a month of each other. Now none of the doors lock automatically or when the lock button is pushed.

The vehicle is a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. The drivers side door locked automatically when the vehicle was put into drive. Once I had arrived at the destination the drivers side door would not open and I was not able to exit the vehicle as a result. I attempted to use the electronic lock to re-lock and unlock the door and this had no success. Attempted rolling down the window and opening the door with the outside latch which also had no success. Tried manually locking and unlocking the door and nothing appears to allow this door to be opened using the inside or outside door latches. I had to exit the vehicle using the passenger side door which opened as it should. Neither inside or outside door latches functioned. I believe this to be a manufacturers defect and this should be put on a recall list and the resolution should be provided at no cost to the owners of this vehicle.

My 2008 GMC Sierra has had the electric door locks fail on three of the four doors. The first occurred after about 36,000 miles and the most recent occurred today at about 64,700 mles. The first repair cost over $300. I have been hesitant to have the other two doors repaired because of cost, but safety is a concern. The two rear doors now will not automatically lock when the vehicle is placed in drive, presenting a hazard especially when tranporting children. I have seen numerous similar complaints on the internet. Shoouldn't GM issue a recall for this problem?

The contact owns a 2008 GM Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the door locks became inoperable. The contact was not able to exit the vehicle as a result. The contact was able to exit the vehicle once a passenger opened the door from the exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the problem was a common and that they were working to find a remedy for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 65,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Power door lock failed on driver door. You can not open door with out lifting hand latch. This is very dangerous-- meaning you can not open door by door handle-- there is no override like provided on other vehicles. Other door failed 2 months later. Truck locks and unlocks doors when moving shifter from park to drive, there is no program option to delete this option. So you lock and unlock doors every time you shift truck transmission to park or in drive. This is not needed in my case, since you can manually do same. This is manufacture defect and should be recalled.

Sierra 1500 8-cyl

  • 27,500 miles
Power door lock failure. Cannot lock or unlock 3 out of the trucks 4 doors with remote or the on board lock/unlock button. The driver door failed 3 week ago, the driver side rear door failed last week and the passenger side read door failed yesterday. This is both a safety and security issue. The back door locks can only be accessed from inside the truck in the event of an emergency with no key access. From a security stand point the failure is not known until the door either does not lock or unlock and you notice the failure. This becomes an issue as you may think that the vehicles doors are locked but they are not. Also the inability to lock the door in the event someone is trying to get into the vehicle I.e. carjacking. I have scheduled a repair with the dealer who admitted that this is a known issue.

Random door lock failure leading to permanent failure over several months. Owner is unaware of problem until several weeks or months as problem progresses to complete failure. Door locks will sometimes lock and sometimes unlock, but totally unaware to the owner until the problem finishes with complete failure. Often times vehicle is left unlocked when owner assumes it is. The problem creates opportunity for crime as well as many other safety concerns. The other major concern is the integrity of the door locking system during a crash..... when you know your doors may not be locked. I have grave concerns for children in the back seats of vehicles that should be locked but aren't. because of flaws in component integrity. This problem has happened to 3 (including myself) out of 5 trucks owned by friends or family members. The internet is flooded with thousands of people having the same problem. We have serious concerns regarding this matter. Thanks for your co-operation.
