Sierra 1500 SLE 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,000 miles

  1. Driving the vehicle after a cold start (first thing in the morning) the transmission shifts harshly into 2nd and third gear to the point where it feels like it locks up then shifts.

    2. When the transmission is at normal operating temperature the upshifts seem to be smoother under light acceleration but when accelerating under heavier conditions the transmission shifts harshly and again feels like it locks up.

Sierra 1500 LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,000 miles

The GM eight-speed automatic transmission slips, bucks, kicks, jerks, harshly engages, gives sudden acceleration, a delay in downshifts, and delayed acceleration. There's difficulty stopping the vehicle.

Sierra 1500 SLT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

I have brought the truck in 2 separate times for this issue. The first time the trans fluid was flushed. The 2nd time the fluid and filter were changed. This was done a few thousand miles ago and it was doing okay, but now the surging and hard shifting are back again.

Sierra 1500 AT4 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

Inline with many other complaints of the 8-speed auto transmission, I have had several instances of extremely hard shifts. Someone explained it like hitting something. This is exactly what I have experienced. I love this truck, but am worried about the transmission costing me money.

Sierra 1500 Elevation 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,300 miles

I have had this truck for about 4 months and have taken it in a couple of times, due to the shifting issue. First, it started with we need to replace the fluid in the transmission. Job was completed and when returned to me, I was told to drive it for a minimum mileage and if problem persisted, bring it back in and they would go from there. After driving the truck for a month, the issues were getting far worse than before. Just got the truck back after the 2nd round of transmission adjustments and now the problem still persists, and when taking off from the repair pickup isle the truck did the same thing it was taken in for. As of now I am not very happy with GMC Corporate decision to just reprogram the transmission. Frustrated to say the least...
