I bought the "paint sealer" extra for this car and it was warrantied for 2 years. Trouble is shortly after 2 yrs., I noticed bubbling paint at the bottom of the door lips. Approximately 1 year after that,rust showed up under the corner edges of the center plastic trim of the back gate. I am assuming that the edges of the trim sit too close to the paint surface and with hot and cold expansion the paint gets rubbed off and it starts bleeding rust. I touched up the back gate with some red oxide alkyd paint. Really great color match since my Terrain is blue but a good red oxide paint will arrest rust and stop it from bleeding downward. I can always touch the red up with blue which I intend to do. Back to the doors. Why cant GM undercoat the door lips a little better? The dealer did touch up the door lip bubbling with a top coat but it came back the next year.<p>A courtesy driver picked me up in a newer Terrain and I noticed the same paint bubbles under the door lips and the check engine light was on too. How about that, just like mine!<p>I was supposed to fill out, tear off, and send in these little certificates every time I had my oil changed at the dealer and they would verify that your paint job was still OK. I neglected to do this and eventually this voids your paint job warranty. By the way, the dealer did not remind me at least even once about my neglect but they seemed to know when I needed an oil change. I thought that the paint sealer would help but it was a useless waste of money. Dont buy any paint sealer packages.
I installed my own electronic anti-rust unit shortly afterward but the rust had already started. GM dealer was glad to sell me that same type of unit for 500 bucks (Canada) . I was also told that annual oil spray would void the electrical warranty.
The long and the short of this is that the consumer should not be made responsible to maintain their own paint warranty.
